hm, a sequencer?

Yes there is:
SD midi controller
link

I think there is a alesis midi filer and I think yamaha has one, but most hw sequencers would work just like a recorder, like a mmt

thanks bunches for that link!

slp- I honestly didnt think of hardware sequencers as recorders also.
my face is red.

I probably should have put this in the sequencer forum then.

There have been discussions on the + and - of different models (alesis, yamaha ...) but ... what is the cheapest sequencer that still has a lot of notes??
Id just use the external control (record) function, you see.

you would probably get more notes in a midi data recorder like an alesis datadisk or a yamaha mdf (? i think thats what theyre called) than a sequencer
according to ebay the datadisk and the mmt8 are both about £50 but ive defo seen them cheaper- i think i got my datadisk for £30
it seems the yamaha qx sequencers go for less or the same as an mmt8 and many of them have built in floppy drives (which the mmt8 doesnt)

tkans a lot man !
thats exactly what I was looking for - I often forget to turn everything on, when noodling inspiration strikes, and its lost isnt it, when yore not recording anything.

Its alsmost like it only happens when Im wanking about.

I wasnt going to buy another sequencer, I really just wanna record. Havent found the yamaha MDF though.

i dont know anything about the yamaha mdf (midi data filer) but if its like the alesis datadisk it can record a sequence of midi but you cant edit it- you would need a sequencer for that- or later re-record it from datadisk into a computer (i think it sends out midi clock to sync stuff)

if it is considerably cheaper than a standard sequencer, then its the thing I need.
just recording at the push of a button - fire up the pc later, edit and tweak

cheers
