So I'm looking for something that I can loop with, preferably using midi and software, that will let me make sounds and loop them on top of each other. The hard part is, i would like to be able to mute and solo these loops on the fly. I'm currently using reason, and beginning to dabble with Ableton Live. Anyone know if I will be able to accomplish this w/ my current set up? I have a number of MIDI input devices, and sound modules, I just need an intelligent looper. Any thoughts? tutorials?

how are you making the sounds? with acoustic instruments? electronic? vsts?
ableton can probably do what you want, the only limitation i can think of is, if you are trying to record and loop acoustic sounds, you may have latency issues depending on your computer.

what do you consider an "intelligent looper" to be

Sooperlooper on Mac will do much of this. (I haven't used Mobius (PC), but I think it probably does something similar).

It has an undo/redo function that has saved my ass many times.

Also, individual loops can be routed to their own output, so they can be muted and soloed as well.

yep Mobius can do all that on windoze... so if thats what youre on, i'd go with Mobius in Audiomulch

also, ableton itself can do looping very well with the limitation that you may not (easily) sound on sound overdub on a recorded loop. google is your friend if that interests you.

Also superlooper is great, although somewhat of a pain in the ass, but also GREAT.

I would like to be happier. Can I do that with Ableton Live?

Get a KP3 for looping on the fly!

this does what you are asking.

No, Ableton is the path of sorrow
oh how i love the speed of replies on this forum. Joy :]

SnooperLooper looks great, I think I'm going to try this, as I am working w/ a mac (my PC is used for MINIMAL processing). It can be routed, has an undo function, ovrdub, multiply... Thats more or less what I have been looking for.

Since I posted last night, I realized I can use Reason in conjunction w/ ProTools and GuitarRig2, which has a similar function. I'm not going to know which is exactly what I need untill i try them. I'm using synths, arps, REX files, premade loops, one shots, etc, with an MPD32 and a X-Station 25.

Basically I'm just trying to figure out the best setup for my live gig I'm building. I also have a MaxMSP sampler I built back in school. It works fantastically but needs some tweeking and MIDI functions added. Also I have to figure out how to get all the samples to sync togeather, but that's a whole other post ;]

GuitarRig2's looper is full of poopy. It crackles and freaks out all the time for me. You have been warned.

Ableton is your friend

No you need their new version, ableton life

if you want to add looping to your current setup i'd just get a digitek jamman looper and a phat cf card for it...

listen to roshi! sooperlooper is the shit. if you use it with AUlab you can assign each looper to a fader of its own. priceless.
