if you surf the monome forums there are a number of clone kits that people are building over there. The main one is the spark fun / arduinome clone, but there are some other options. That is really the place to be asking :D

Julien bayle is making an RGB version of the arduinome link It will be a very nice unit when its ready, but it's a more complex and expensive project, and i don't yet know of an working examples 'in the wild'. Also, at the time of writing i don't think any software exists that takes advantage of RGB leds in a monome. Stuff to consider.
