i have the egosys u24 which is the predecessor of the XL. it's a very reliable small soundcard. never noticed any problems with sound quality. but this doesn't necessarily mean it's the same with the XL as they had to switch some chips because they weren't available anymore from the manufacturer.

i reviewed the new u24xl last month and for a simple 2 i/o interface it's great. low latency under windows and mac, 24 bit recording, etc. for 99 Euro a steal for sure.

this is probably not gonna help you, but i hate egosys. They ripped me off with their 'wami box' , the worst piece of shit ever to be sold as a 'soundcard'.
maybe the stuff got better, dunno

yeah esi = egosys.
used to use an esi wavetreminal 192 one of my old desktops, it was an excellent soundcard for the price.
