thread starter the only acts in electro i know by name are drexciya and anthony rother. I like drexciya, but i'm looking for something closer to what may be strictly considered dance music, less like arm-chair techno. rother's ok, but i want something that hits much, much harder than his stuff, which is light. if you know dj's who spin this kind of thing that' dbe cool too.

maybe check out ed banger. french record label doing dance type stuff that tends toward rough. specifically that sebastien character. i think the french have it for rough dance type stuff but that is just my opinion. there is lots there if you dig a bit. of course the obvious justice...

hi
if you wanna find out what you'd like in the now quite large rough dance music scene, i strongly suggest to have a look at some blogs: that one is really good, let's say it's all about that electro scene you're talking about, sometimes it will be more dubstep-ish, sometimes more house-ish, but always at the cutting edge, + you've got loads of mixes and tracks to get. link that one is also very good IMO, he talks very well about the music he diffuses: link you might not love all that there is one those blogs, but they really reflect what we call here "blog house", which is the best lab for dance music. i'm not that much into the "rough" electro sound, and there is now so many producers that i can't give you all their names: but Joker of the Scene, D.I.M, Diplo, Drop the Lime, Erol Alkan, Sebastian, Surkin, Justice, Fake Blood, Proper Villains, Crookers, are all artists that might interest you. sweet. lots to dig through here.
oh Boyz Noize has also that rough sound you're after
2 Lone Swordsmen. 'Tiny reminders' is classic.
I have some issues with the "rough" sound quality of a lot of the newer producers mentioned here (ie. justice, surkin, boyz noize). They mostly have a very disco influenced overly-compressed, digitally distorted, glossy, treble-y, in your face kind of sound. I find it very fatiguing to listen to more than 1/2 hour. I'm not sure distorted, glossy tracks that are almost always peaking can be called rough.
Although "Turning Dragon" from CLARK shares some of these qualities, it hits much harder than any of them. I already consider it a classic although it's just two years old. Roshi said: "2 Lone Swordsmen. 'Tiny reminders' is classic." From the same era, so is "Fucking Consumer" by I-F. There is still nothing like it. Yeah, I find that more artists are mixing for ipod earbuds instead of good sound systems. Blech.
Yes, I-F is awesome. I also am a big fan of Legowelt, Radioactive Man, Silicon Scally. aligak said: "I have some issues with the "rough" sound quality of a lot of the newer producers mentioned here (ie. justice, surkin, boyz noize). If you like Drexciya you should definitely check out all of the Stinson/Donald related side projects.
- Arpanet ("Wireless Internet" in particular) - Dopplereffekt ("Gesamtkunstwerk" is the most Drexciya-like and a killer album) - Elecktroids - Der Zyklus - Transllusion - Shifted Phases - Japanese Telecom - The Other People Place ...I'm probably missing a few more. My favorite newer artist making music in a similar style is probably Luke Eargoggle. Komarken Electronics make some pretty cool electro as well. Both of these guys seem to steer clear of the armchair-techno side of things and just serve up raw electro of the type you'd expect from someone who calls a drum machine a "drum computer". if you like rother check out boris divider
