Good soundcard for a live setup ?
em411.com forums : Hardware recording, mastering : hardware based recording and mastering thread starter I have a tascam us-122 mkII and it's just not really cutting the mustard for live use. When I get the latency turned down to where it's pretty great, (just above 10ms) after 20 minutes I get something that sounds like bitrate distortion.....
what's a good soundcard for using with ableton, when you're using ableton as a sampler?

USB or Firewire?
Mac or PC? Any inputs required? Preamps? Or just a stereo balanced output? Do you need 24/96 or 24/192 bitrate/resolution? Or are you just running everything at 44.1? I'm going to invest in an E-MU Tracker Pre soon. I need a USB device, and its got the in/out configuration I want (and some good A/D converters for the price). The 0404 and 0202 from E-MU look pretty good too. The 0202 uses the same converters as the Tracker Pre, but the D/A converters on the 0404 are supposed to be much better). I don't know how low the latency goes on these interfaces, though. I don't really need low latency. It's more for recording than performing. Hopefully it works out for me. If I could use Firewire I think I'd go with an Echo Audiofire 2. A nice simple high quality interface. I need an input, and an output.
usb 44.1 16 bit is just dandy......that other crap is for sissies. reliability and low low latency think I can get a fire-wire upgrade for my laptop? It should be no problem to add firewire to your laptop if you have some sort of pci slot (cardbus, expresscard). Just make sure you get a card with a TI (Texas Instruments) firewire chipset that is of the correct type (check your laptop's specs).
How much are you willing to spend? Audiofire 2 + firewire upgrade will probably cost over $200. The E-MU 0202 costs $100. There are many more options in the < $200 range if you go with USB. Whatever you decide on, make sure stable drivers are available for your OS. User forums will give you a reasonably good indication of what other people's problems are with the interface. Keep in mind, though, that people who have no problems with their interface usually don't post on user forums. The only feature I think you really need is balanced outputs. This is better for keeping the noise levels low over long cable runs, and also connects to most PAs and consoles. Also, I have no idea why your current interface is acting the way it does. It might not have anything to do with the interface at all. One last thought, have you tried using ASIO4ALL and your internal soundcard? You should be able to get lower latencies from that set up than using either Firewire or USB. The trade off is in sound quality. Audiofir...oh.
have been using a tc konnekt live FW interface for a few years now has had its share of problems but seems better these days with new drivers.
have you looked at the Native Instruments usb interfaces they seem pretty sweet and portable
