I am in the market for a decent pair of studio monitors. I am working in a relatively cramped space, so I am looking for monitors that are designed for near-field use. Ideally I would like something that is small enough to fit on my desk without sacrificing too much frequency response (I realize there are physical limitations, but I am talking IDEAL here). My budget is 800 dollars. Anyone have any good recommendations?

adam a5, dynaudio bm-5a, yamaha msp-5, look into krk too..
genelec, event...
I really like my KRK's.
i'd rate the dyns over the rest in that list.
Focal! The Focal CMS series is very affordable and top notch honest monitors.

I tested the ADAM a5's and the Dynaudio bm5a and the cms 50 by focal. Focal won hands down. There's a sub in the cms series too which was very nice. Great bass response without the .1 tho!

I have friends who own KRK rockits 8's and one of the bigger genelec models. KRK's are... well a waste of money imho.

The genelecs are nice but seem to have hyped mid's and everything just sounds a little to sweet. Somehow it is the most popular brand in audio and video post production, I dunno why.
word! forgot about the small focals.. mate of mine got a set, they're incredible.

and yep, avoid KRK's. they're really flattering, which is nice when you're writing - terrible when you take your tunes to your buddy's house/live PA/mastering guy.
