thread starter Here's what I'm trying to do.
I need to get three weeks worth of drone / noise happening. I took a half hour of music and used Paulk's stretch to bring it to 24 hours. Now I want to have the 24 hour loop playing along and mixed in with a set of about 30 other pieces which would play at random and repeat, the idea being that the 30 pieces would mix with the drone play off against it. I guess I could use two laptops and a mixer, or one laptop and two instances of real player or some such, but I was hoping for something a bit more elegant and less "held together with string". I thought I might be able to use a DJ program, but either they don't believe in random autoplay or don't believe that a track can be 24 hours long. This might end up sounding appalling, so I'm not excited about spending money, I just want to try out the idea. Any iodeas on hoiw I could get this to work on one computer?

Can't you just break up the 24 hours into parts?
Then, it can be done by just running two instances of VLC - one instance to play back the 24 hours chopped up, and one to play back in random order. There might be a small gap every hour or hour and a half (or however large the wav file can be created). I don't think it would really be a big issue since it would happen so infrequently. Yep that works. Thanks - I mean I'm sure I would have thought of that eventually (coughs in an embarrassed way)
