didn't know if you guys had seen this. I just saw it just now and it has really upset me.
I feel very sad and angry. I really didn't know it was so many people.
I don't really know what to say about this. I guess I just feel like sharing my feelings.
this is just too much destruction, too much evil. I don't know what else to say.

man.. there's many groups of people who have varied opinons about things around here.
it seems like the most common attitude is mild disapproval of the war, but the disapproval is supressed by the fear implanted in there minds with all this "war on terror" bullshit. The true irony is that we're the terror. People's ignorance is the terror.
I live in a part of the country that is very republican and war mongerish. just the other day, i was hanging out with my girlfriend's family, and one of her dad's friends (an ignorant red-neck), was talking about how his son wanted to join the military.
and i said "but you don't want him to go right?"
he was like "well.. I'm afraid for him to get hurt, but part of me feels proud of him to be out there defending freedom"..
I've spent a few times arguing with those ignorant fucks, and at that time, I chose not to say something along the lines of "you're living in a dreamworld, don't feel proud when your son dies to make some rich evil bastards even more disgustingly rich than they already are"
astroid said: "that's to say nothing of the 150K or so who died in gulf war 1 and then the mil and a half who died because of little details like sanctions during clinton, the bombing of infrastructure like water treatment plants, etc."
yea all that is true as well.. it surprises me how much this stuff still affects me when I hear about it. I am very aware of the hundreds of thousands who have died for the motives of this corupt government.

it's a fucking disgrace and has fuck all to do with helping anyone but ourselves and i'm ashamed to be british. our prime minister is a lying sack of shit and our mp's (who are supposed to represent their constituents in parliament) backed the war in a vote even though the vast majority of the public were against it, the prime minster goes on about the democratic process only when it suits him, if it doesn't he just does what he wants to anyway.
i know americans are big on being 'patriotic' but there is nothing to be proud of. the same goes for the uk.

i am from the uk. i have many great friends who hate the war and simply dont understand what the fuck is going on. when i sat in university, three, four years ago watching on tv, live, the first bombs hitting iraq, i became sick... i sat up and watched the bombing getting pissed for hours. we just laughed to ourselves in distgust... the ironic moronic sick humour which there is no substitute for... the only expression for us, powerless was to belittle the amplitude of what we were witnessing.
post ironic humour got me through university. iraq seems a long way away. i am not ignorant. i do feel a bit like its cool to hate war and a trendy thing to do to slate ignorant people. at the end of the day, i aint dropping the fucking bombs. I dont feel responsible for the war and i dont see why i should.
I remember more than any other lesson learned, specifically engaging my brain to absorb that war was wrong. I remember sitting at a class watching my sexy history teacher prancing around and accepting as FACT that we, the west, the world, whatever, regardless of religion opinion education etc.. had learned from what had been before. Germany, Hitler, China Britain, had sat down and mused over what they had done and decided that we had now to pass down the information, what we had learned to our children.. war was wrong, stupid and was to be comdemned to history books as a terrible fuck up..
basically, i hold no faith in the government, or the television, or the weatherman, or the milkman, or my boss, or anyone. I cnat take it as a given that anything remains constant in this world. I dont know whats right or wrong. War and guns seems stupid to me. Maybe as i grow older still i will absorb more of the whos and whats and the figures of the war, but i got nuff friends to make my little world a fair, happy place, on community terms.
this site rocks

I'd dislike it less if they just honestly called it an invasion. Someone should just out with it and say "Hey guys, we're out of oil. Lets take over a country that has some". It'd be a less sickening excuse than defending freedom, that's for sure. That, and 'I suppose we can test out all these fancy weapons while we're at it". Somewhat simplified I guess, but probably not far from the truth either.

American's are not ALL big on being patriotic. Thats just the hype. Don't believe it. And, btw, I found British culture to be on the whole a bit more full of machismo than US culture when I visited last year.... But I recognize that is probably also just the hype.

don't take is personally dude, even on this site usa folk have a tendancy to defend themselves before saying something negative:
'i love my country but...'.
no need to be so defensive or reactionary, sorry if i offended.

no one I hang out with even mildly defends the war, on whatever terms.
And there are precious few on this site who aren't offended and made sick by it, so I'm not sure I really agree with you.

I thought the main criticism of this report was that 47 cluster points sampled wasn't accurate enough for Iraq, as opposed to previously similar studies in poorer and less populated regions like Kosovo and Afghanistan. One of the IBC criticisms was that hundreds of thousands of death certificates were counted that were never officially issued.
I dunno. It's no better than Saddam's regime. That place is hell on earth right now.
