--> Why do I think this a good thing? I wonder about past excessive use of THC, a need for the Snares man when I haven't slept, and my obsession with my old toys of childhood. Do these things relate? Can I blame the internet? Please?

i hate your relative's parents.

yep. i've always been bothered with that, its bloody annoying.

i have a theory that mechp has ADD because he hasn't done any art for me yet.

and my dad works in a sleep lab- RLS is totally real. Sleep studies are how this is typically diagnosed, he says its amazing, some people will shake the bed while their legs look like cartoons.
I would never say that a medication is bad outright, and I think that would be a really dumb thing to say. The problem imho is drug advertising and all the medical media online. Parents develop a hypothesis that little so and so has ADD and they want to be right so bad that they read a description online, see some similarities, and then fill in the difference to the doctor when they talk. Because so many things like sleep problems, psychiatric problems, behavior problems, depend on patient reporting and not on actual objective testing, advertising for medications that treat these very real conditions is a definite problem. Your primary care physician gets paid the equivalent of about $75/hr- you can hardly afford to have him follow little jimmy to school for a week and see for himself/herself.
Sleep meds are a popular topic right now. Lunesta for example, saw its sales QUADRUPLE in the course of a few months with advertising. I'm gonna go ahead and guess that we aren't in an insomnia epidemic.
ADD meds have very real and legit applications, but because they depend on parental reporting, they are overprescribed. But, a large portion of Ivy League schools are on strattera- for its ability to help one focus. It worries me that there may be an academic elite who can afford $250 a month of drugs that make them better at school.
I know thats long winded, but I really feel strongly about the issue both from my experiences with a family and wife with psychiatric issues, and my own work in the medical field.

great art - is it yours ?

ADD - use your quirks to your advantage > it gives you an edge in some areas over others > an eq boost so you sit above the mix

as a person who was at one time "diagnosed with add" and was then placed on lots of medication (read: amphetamines) I can tell you that this is a VERY serious decision to make for anyone. One should not kid themselves about what it is one is taking. Ritalin, Dexadrine, Atterall etc. are all forms of amphetamine aka speed. risk of abuse is there, and there are certainly side effects that come along with it.

I took medication for ADD for 5 years. My doctors had me on 45mg of Dexadrine a day. 3 5mg tablets 3 times a day. I spent one of those years taking it as directed, 2 abusing it, and 2 more deciding whether I should stop taking it. In the end, I really don't know if I have ADD. I do know that that medication did not have an entirely positive effect in my life and it undoubtedly brought up issues that were not there before.

so yeah, i dunno...maybe you have ADD. the question is what do you want to do about it? maybe nothing? its up to you; just think twice if some doctor thinks you should be taking a regular regime of speed. (hopefully yours is cool enough to help you think about a bunch of different ways to deal with (or harness) your ADD whether it is medication, or something else)

anyway, my 2 cents

I have ADD, always looked as it as a creative advantage actually, i cant work on things too long though, I get bored or my attention gets diverted to easily.

i was diagnosed with ADD as a child as well.
thank god my parents refused to have put on meds.

I've had trouble paying attention and staying focused on one thing as long as I can remember. It takes concentration or motivation for me to stay on one task. Does that make me abnormal? Doubtful, but it's very annoying, nonetheless.

I think it's just the product of an active, but lazy brain, not the symptoms of a handicap. Cut down on the "instant gratification" expectations and don't drink so much caffeinated beverage. Excessive alcohol ingestion also affects your internal motivation, so do that in moderation too.
this blog is boring

playertwo, i've seen that shit too! I serve as well, and when I See parents bring in their kids with DVD players in their faces, zoned out and watching cartoons while their parents enjoy their $20 slabs of fish and $8 glasses of wine I always cry a little inside. actually, I just get sort of angry.

hey, those kinds of families, the ones that can afford portable electronics to sedate their children in restaurants, usually tip pretty well though ;).

by the way, that is a great picture, I agree

yeah wtf.

its so weird. and the medicine they have for it seems to have a buch of fucked up side effects.

yeah maybe add is some sort of evolution.

a new breed for tv and internets and whatnot. button pushers, surfers, ... nonlinear humans.

i don't remember posting that.

Where did that picture come from- I love it?
