i got a new job 600 kilometres away from my hometown. though it'S a really ace job (writing for a magazine that reviews musicsoftware and such like sound on sound or something like this)
i just came back for a one week trip because of searching a flat there.
as i need to start on the first of july, my time in my former hometown is really limited now.
pretty much mixed emotions here. like i'm really excited about the new job, but at the same time i really sad. as i don't know anybody in the other city and all my friends are like 600 kilometres away, which is quite a distance here in germany. plus the new place is really expensive and i need to give up this big and fancy and really cheap flat for a room with something like 12 squaremetres for nearly double the price.

Congrats about your new job.
Time to time i feel i would like to get 600km away from all the people i know to a new social circle.
And i feel that i should get an ace job also...
But yeah it can get a bit lonely after the excitement is gone.

tricky stuff.. ak, i bet it feels awful to move to a smaller apt for more money 
the job sounds ace. maybe you'll get to keep 'for review' prototypes and stuff :D , or maybe thats just in my dreamworld fantasy image of what it's like to work in a music mag.

i hope i'll meet some nice peeps quite quickly.
and concerning keeping the stuff. i'm doing this freelance the last year and i was allowed to keep everything. except hardware. so it was quite a dream come true. hopefully this doesn't chaange that much, when i work there, but if i remember correctly. i'll be able to keep stuff i review.

I seem to have done this a few times of late. The more I've been meeting people who've kind of stayed put in their town of birth, the more I start to think that it's a good idea to live somewhere else for a year or two at least. It did me the world of good & was a real relief, so then I tried a different country too (which I found fairly tough, quite shocking, but good too).
Also, from conversations with friends who've also lived in different houses in new cities/countries etc., it seems that things like the situation with the house you happen to live in (landlord/letting agency/neighbours), even the street, can end up affecting how you feel on the whole about living in a certain town/city etc. Not sure if anyone else has found that.
ps - All the best with your new start/job, sounds quite exciting.

i think that's definitively true.
experienced this aswell. and i'm really sure that your urban surrounding is pretty much affecting the perception of your current situation.

yeah, but in Germany you can drive REALLY fast, right? So really, how far is 600 killometers? It's nuthing!

and the wierd thing is that our glorious automotive industry still has close to no interest in hydrocars or other alternatives, even in the long run. despite some of the largest car manufacturers coming from germany the only true hydro-cars you can buy are from Toyota.. mmmh. too much money to be made from highpowered sportscars I suppose.
