when it comes down to it people will buy a 201 because they want to make trance/techno on a budget, they cost like a tenth of a new minimoog. you can look down your noses at them but not everyones up for lying in the dark in their own filth for a year learning max so they can be viewed as 'real electronic musicians'. they want the 10 sounds they associate with these musics without having to lay down a years rent

that'd be a best-seller: a groovebox called TRANCE10 that has the ten trance sounds and like four knobs to tweak. $300.

nonsense. it has nothing to do w/how much money it costs to get into making "real electronic music" or what it takes to be "viewed as a real electronic musician". i dont even know where to begin with that statement.

you dont need a years rent to get into computer based music. you can buy a cheap desktop from dell for $500 or something. you can get reason or live or both and make all the music you want.

no one here is looking down their nose at them in snobby way.. we're all just wishing they weren't so ignorant of the things they are trying compare. why they chose to put it on youtube??? well.. that's another question.

oh, that "trance10" box you are talking about is the roland MC-303 groovebox.. so.. it's already been done astroid

i was refering to the
'roland/korg/yamaha seriously need to take a lesson from the little guys like dsi, moog, clavia, elektron, etc'
comment rather than the youtube fools themselves. there was a lot of hate getting fired at the 201 itself, i was just standin up for people who just want an entry level synth rather than a full on compositional tool itself and was using a rather silly extreme example. computers are a headache (and i spend 90% of my life lookin at one), its nice just to hit the on switch and have a fiddle occasionally. spending $500 dollars on a computer and reason, you'll get a lot of latency rather than a flexible live instrument

totally agree

dont really agree w/that one. it's quite debatable.

regardless, we got 6 pages out of those gearwire wanks.

wow. that was agonizingly bad. those guys get *paid* money to be that stupid?

i saw a SH-201 sitting next to a dsi mek today and was very surprised to see that the SH-201 was a bit over $1000 CAD, while the mek was $1350 CAD.

the bastards took this vid down!

this is like a year old.
