Soul martyrdom. Rip JB

james brown is dead

Video

this is the least funkiest christmas EVER!

old nardwuar interview

Rest in peace king of beatz.

I enjoyed this blog & his music & his antics!

we were talking about him in the pub last night. what a guy. rip.
Okay, now that the sun is down I can at least stand to talk about soul brother number one, the godfather of funk, the most sampled man on the planet and the hardest working man in show biz.

I was born in Detroit about 20 blocks from Motown's original studios. My mother was a Cop and worked body guard detail for some of James' shows in the early 70's. My mother worked protection detail for a lot of Motown stars but the only ones you'll catch her bragging about are Aretha and James.

When Dr. King was killed there was rioting in many cities but not in Boston where James Brown was on the television performing live and telling people to dance off their anger.

There was a time when his record was the only one that could get everyone, young old black white out on the dance floor. Possibly the only time you ever saw your Grandmother say the word sex in public was lip syncing to "Sex Machine".

At my apartment the girlfriend might be getting a beloved pug dog. We find out about whether or not she will get one of the litter. If so the dog will be named "Maceo". That name has been picked out for a couple of years.

I recently vowed to collect every live bootleg of James Brown and Maceo Parker (and by extension Dee-Lite).

My brother has been studying the late Fela Kuti, who studied with James Brown back in 1965.

And there is the sampling. everyone on this board has probably sampled him. If not you will or you just don't sample much. You think you invented the trick where you layer two different JB Band drummers? James did that first when he hired two drummers to perform live.

I am left wondering about the people who i sent my Christmas Compilation to. James brown's "Funky Christmas" is track one on the NICE Disk and "Santa Go Straight to the Ghetto" is on the NAUGHTY.

James be doing splits on the clouds now.

Been raining all day here on the East Coast, and I've been listening to James Brown all day long. All day long. And I introduced his music to two of my nephews today as well. Had to make a gift of it. They don't know him like I do, but clearly they liked what they heard. Soul Brother #1, indeed.

You know, it was the first thing I saw this morning, before presents -- not a way to start Christmas.

Am I evil for having that LA Style song pop into my head the moment I read the headline?

This is hillarious: Video&mode=related&search=

James Brown was the definition of cool mofo to me when I was growin up.
