--> anyone heard this guy? i find it really amazing. he has had loads of mental health problems over the years but its still about sometimes. better than bob dylan imo.

i just saw the dvd - the devil and daniel johnston. its crazy. that mans life is crazy.

he was once flying back from a gig in his dads plane (he was like 35 at this point and had just come out of a mental hospital) and he was reading a casper the friendly ghost comic. on the front was casper parachuting so he said to his dad that he wanted to do it. his dad said they didn't have any parachutes, so daniel johnston got angry, turned the engine off and threw the keys out the window. his dad had to crash land in a load of trees. the funniest thing is the pics of him afterwards, he has a massive smile on his face as he things he did a good thing.

anyway, you should watch the dvd, or watch some of his stuff on youtube, he really is amazing.

missing from the wierdo music site is one Biff Rose. Biff also developed into quite a racist ranter, which I assume is fiercely ironic, but does not appeal in the slightest. It actually repels me. Still, his first album, the Thorn in Mrs. Rose's Side is one of my favorite albums ever.

just saw this mive.

speechless.
like the first half was so intense.
i just new the music so far.
but that movie...
while i was watching i was calling like 3 people just saying to them:
that movie. brilliant. need to hang up. watch it. as soon as possible.

> he has had loads of mental health problems

evrey great artist is insane. sane people rarely have interesting ideas.

i saw the movie a while back. It's actually quite depressing, because you know he'll never snap out of it, and from what i remember of it, the manager's life kind of got thrashed because they believed in him. And like a lot of things on mtv, the moment you get old and fat, you're dumped like a bowl of day old capn crunch.

what? Can you really turn off a plane and throw out the keys?!
its not a chevy... its goddam Learjet

lgo, I think that's bullshit. I think assuming that great artists were insane is part of the idiotic hero worship in our culture that assumes great people are millions of light years different than us... and that "crazy/suicidal/supergenius great artist" illusion is totally wrong.
are you trying to steal my glory ricemutt!!! I attribute my artistic output to my lack of mental health!

check this out.. more crazy beautiful for you. Much sadder story and stranger man.

Also .. down below listen to "For You".. such beautiful and natural songwriting. He plays this song for his mom in the movie.

"For you ... alone in my room for you ... I'm brought out of the gloom for you..."

another movie that proves the devil lives in Austin

yeah, this really was an incredible film! it's almost like music was the one thing keeping him sane, or well, keeping him from completely unraveling at least...

johnson's music though, is a bit meh, not enough bitches and ho's ;)

I'll take Daniel's piano playing of Aphex Twin's any day ;)

I meant over...
