--> so the macworld keynote has started about now I suppose. I'm kind of keeping an eye on the macnn feed here: link - i'm not really waiting for anything to be released per se, but macworld keynotes have become a bi-annual habit for me, so discuss whatever Steve graces us with..

Roshi beat me to saying;-

'It's well weapon'

Can they now make a 12" version of this without the phone bit.

(multitouch+max/msp??)

I used to never get dropped calls. Unless, of course, I was outside an area of coverage. But with Cingular I could be frigging anywhere and the call is always always dropped at some point. It doesn't matter how many bars I start off with, at some point the signal gets crap and I'm dropped.

it'll be interesting to see how Apple handles the European launch.. I cannot see them going with any particular provider, the market is too diverse, way too many rival providers.. luckily without the problem of dropped calls period here.. shame they didn't hop on the UMTS bandwagon though, just when bandwidth prices are beginning to drop.

in practice (at least here in the uk) edge performs better due to crappy 3g infrastructure.

as a '3' customer I can safely say that 3G is poop. I have so many missed calls it's untrue.

i am in lust

holy shit, I just realized that UMTS == 3G.. noone uses the term 3G here though, so I assumed it was some other technology..

The only time I get anything done is when my internet is broken or I can't get to it. I am so through throwing any more money at nasty cell phone carriers. They have all had the worst customer service ever. Cingular, Verizon, especially T-Mobile. I called T-Mobile the other day to complain about my service and I got a message that "They could not take my call at this time." No call back, no message, no holding, just "bye."
I love PDAs and tablets and palmtops, I really do. Its so futuristic. But in the end, I have to avoid them, because they're just another way for me to isolate myself, and just something else to lose or break. I'm still lugging around a little nokia slab phone that refuses to die. I think I have 60kb. It was free. I can't wait till I lose it.
I think my next one might be a prepaid deal.
i wonder if you can just switch sim cards with it.

ive found thats possible with most any phone that uses sim cards.

so you could get a tmoble prepaid sim card and use it with this fancy ipod phone.

prepaid is the way to go. its great. i pay like 50$ every 3-4 months or so.

it looks great, but the way i treat my cellphones and other devices, ill probably have to skip it. i have a habit of dropping them, throwing them etc...
the interesting thing is, its a very very competitive market, so we can bet we will get new phones from other companies soon.

cc - about the prepaid...

can you give me some more info.

how many minutes do you get? what type of phone/carrier? any problems?

$50 every 3-4 months sounds awesome.

True. Happens at the 17-19min mark for me...every effin time! >

weird how people have such varying experience.

A friend of mine dropped Verizon and allied with T-Mobile at the cost of service ONLY because he loves their customer service. He'd rather have bad service and good customer service... which I think is backwards, but, odd that Delta's had the opposite experience.

The front better be made out of mineral glass or whatever scratchproof. You'll have to wipe it clean on your clothes, jacket, tissue etc about forty times a day with all that poking at the screen.

Otherwise, yeah, +1 from for v2 (by the time it gets to Canada).

link

well thats just too bad, it would have been cool to have 3rd party software, skype for instance on it. some other stuff
