--> dear diary,

ok, i've played like a lot of shows, but i still get nervous every time. and i think it's worse when i play here, cause i know people have seen me play before and i know my set consists of a lot of the same songs every time (albiet different every time but still most elements are the same). i wish i could make new songs more quickly so that i would have some f-f-fresh trax in there. also, i keep trying to make things more and more triggerable when in reality i am realizing i should just stop where i am now in that respect and focus on tweaking effects more and and stage presence and stuff. and of course, the more i think about this the more nervous i get. and i wish i could get drunk to calm the nerves, but since i've made my set so trigger dependant i would f*ck everything up royally and that would be a bad thing. i think i need to stop playing shows for awhile and make new music so i will at least feel like i'm bringing something new to the table.

yours truly,

jen

don't sweat the petty stuff

and don't pet the sweaty stuff...

can i set the sweety puff?

lololololololol

too many west coasters up so late.

"too many west coasters up so late."

Ah, ok!! I thought it was intellectual humour or something.

i didn't even notice that it was funny

ha.

it went well, a former member of front line assembly bought me a beer and this one guy made my night by saying "i don't come out to clubs much anymore but i just wanted to say your music was awesome cause it felt really human" plus *lots* of people danced. plus the promoter said "don't take this the wrong way but it's nice to know what we can get away with" cause i hit 185 bpm at a techno night. ;) plus i got paid. plus an old friend of mine (since grade 5!) came by. plus the owner of my fav restaurant was there and liked my set, maybe i will get a lifetime discount

so yeah it was fine again, i actually did get a little drunk by the end but that facilitated me jamming on some acid trax for about 10 min before i ended my set. and i probably turned up the feedback far too much on the delay a few times. haha. but i swear, i want new trax, playing that jam at the end was my fav part. it *may* have been recorded, i'll find out soon.

i em411. you are the wind beneath my wings.

Sounds like a blinding time had by all!

Congrats

sounds great indeed
hopefully it got recorded
buy a PA & a lot of beer.

practice playing your set really drunk & really loud at home for a while. you may even want to get some spot lights.

then, when it comes time for a show, you'll be able to afford to drink your face off because your accomplished drunken performer.

works for 90% of successful rock bands, it can work 4 you 2!!!

i enjoyed this blog.

i always have to pee my pants from nervousness before a show. gawd, i hate it. and the same set/song thing is also very stressful. my next show is on the 27th and i have a black pit in my stomach about it...

glad to hear it went well!

Lady, you totally rock.

But even if having a bunch of your friends tell you that doesn't calm all your nerves... well... i think being a little nervous is a good thing.

I mean, if you really care about your music, you'll be a little nervous. The things I'm not nervous at are the things I dont care if I do well or not.

And i agree with jdg, hearing the same songs is good. Music is all about repetition, right? I mean, unless you are some sort of atonal arhythmic academic asswipe.

I'd have to agree with mlbot - a little nervousness is a healthy thing, and you totally rock.

Did Bill Leeb buy you a drink??

or was it Rhys? Hmm. I'd love to meet either of those guys, they're heroes of mine.

I think you hit it on the head, and it sounds like things worked out for you. Rock on.

it was neither of them, i can't remember his name (but it stared with a d) and he said he left the band quite awhile ago cause he just didn't feel the goth angst anymore. the guy who said he didn't go to clubs much was the best part though, when he walked in (sporting a grey beard and a lumbrjack jacket) i though for sure he would leave right away. bad on me for judging like that.

i do need to get a big pa and practice drunk. hahaha. no, i'm getting too old for that, sadly.

and that's an awesome approach mlbot, i've never really thought of it that way. still, i hate being nervous. hate!!! i do think some new tracks will remedy it a bit, really i just ned like 5 or 6 more and then i'll have over an hour of stuff so i can mix and match a lot more (cause on average my set times are 45 min).
