for the most part i've loved every autechre record from the get go. and most of them at one time or another became albums that just grew and grew on me and still reveal new sounds and info all the time. things i didnt hear even after listening for years etc.
draft 7.30 was one that i listened to for a while then put away then one day put on and it sounded just amazing to me.
today i had that same experience w/confield. i appreciated it when i first got it but never jelled with it. today, now, i feel like i can finally "hear" the record and it's awesome. it's like a new release i get to enjoy when there is no new autechre record out.
there aren't too many other artists i have this kind of experience with but it makes me question my initial impressions of music. what if i really like happy hardcore and just don't know it yet? just kidding of course but you know what i mean.
you people have similar experiences w/any other records? i know there's more music like this.. some jazz and out there stuff... but a lot of that i know that i like right away or i just totally hate it w/every atom in my body.

i have felt that way about draft and confield. i thought oh they've lost it then i relisten a year later and i am floored. i have felt this way about king crimson and jarvis cocker/pulp too. they just took a while to grow on me.

go plastic i liked right away (most of it) but got into it heavily after a while. i love the verb thats on all the acid and bass at times. i think its mastered A LOT better than his later records too.
amber is one of my fav autechre records. for a while nothing could touch it. its so subtle.
anyway- miles davis.. yep. similar thing happened to me w/on the corner. you miles fans should get the bill laswell version of the miles stuff "panthallassa". it's one of the best things i've ever heard.
as far as an AE obsession.. i was just using them as an example but it does seem to be a common thing to experience w/their music.

track titles like Iv IV IV NN , 896tr. etc are the greatest barrier for me makes it harder to connect
and yes, they are AUTECHRE, therefore i like all the stuff like ALL the stuff. gescom as well
same with boc and hell interface
heh i would listen to christina aguilera if it were a boards of canada or autechre rmix and love it. probably
then again, i got too many mp3s and too little time to listen aware to them. when tylth was jung he spend all his time listening to the few tapes his parents had . that was before we all went "information age" bollocks

ive always loved confield, its my favourite! i often react badly to something i dont know though and end up enjoying it later so ive learned to ignore myself. a lot if it has to do with ideas i guess. you need to understand the 'rules' to appreciate some things. quite often u feel instincitvely that something is good but i wonder how instinctive that really is....

this is me and lp5. I always thought it was okayish, but emotionally distant compared to their other albums. Then I put it on last year and it was like, the most beautiful thing I have ever heard.
I like all of their albums, but definitely agree that it can take a long time to "catch up" with what they're doing--it's weird, almost as if my ears need a few years of further densitization as the rest of the musical world catches up to what Autechre is doing.

I once heard this amazing track in a friends house. it was hard noise and really glitchy, spastic beats all over it, but as I listened to it I slowly began to think 'hmm, yeah, I start to see how they made that noise' and I was totally into the different buzzes and odd, syncopated rhythms. I loved the layers of static and drones that just seemed to wash all over me. But when it hadn't changed after a half an hour, I realised that the radio was simply not tuned in.

I've had a similar experiance .. with "I Care Because You Do" and "Tri Repataeeee".
Still don't care for Confield.. I liked one track (track 3?). It just flat out sounds like utter shit to me. Underpowered and weak.
I dig Untilted though.

there's boc, squarepusher, muziq, and aphex twin stuff at the watmm site if you just type those names in place of "autechre" more music than you could ever listen to.
reminds me of trading phish boots

same thing happened to me with Draft 7.30... one day I just got it.
Aside from Draft, I only like assorted tracks from the others.
I have LP5 and I still don't get it. Just sounds like two guys fucking around with 80's FM synthesizers.

Then again, I have moments with LP5. I put it on every once in a while and it's nice... but not amazing.
