--> so, i am not a fan of lots and lots of trance. but i feel psy trance really does have a purpose. untill friday, i hadn't done any drugs in over a year. now im single, and feeling like partying more than i used to. so friday, i had some mdma and it pretty much didn't do anything, i was sitting in a jamming room with some guys just messing about with guitars. it was ok. a few too many hippies really but they all seemed like nice people,

but last night, i went to a psy trance rave at my local art college and took some pills. i used to go to raves a bit when i was younger, but this one i really enjoyed. the music was absolutely perfect. to be fair, i was pretty mashed, but i can appreciate psy trance for what it is. i wouldnt listen to it sober, but i cant imagine a better music for that state of mind, so i will forever, and hereafter, stop condemning psytrance. i got home and was still fucked so put on some venetian snares, some analords, some sqaurepusher, i even tried juan maclean, gramme, and some very general dance music. none of it seemed to get me going like the psy trance.

discuss.

i kind of agree with straight
psy trance seems to me like techno with all the good stuff removed (most importantly RHYTHM!!!- dance music with no funk??? )
even when im on drugs i need rhythm to inspire me to dance- psytrance is just kind of like a metronome
i dont to leave my body- i want to stay in it so i can feel the funk and get down!- which is just as spiritual as leaving your body in a drugs trance
...but my experiences of psytrance (with drugs or not) are pretty limited

me and a mate are playing at a psy-tra-a-aance night in february. the guy has asked us to do the back room.
not my cup of tea. but all money looks the same to me !

I went into a psytrance for about 6 hours once. Never again. I didn't take any drugs, I just danced the whole time on my own and ate cereal bars. It was shit.

When I think of psytrance I think Astral Projection,MFG,X Dream,Cydonia and Koxbox, that sort of thing. Is this what is being discussed?

This sort of sound, to me, is now another "classic" step in the evolution of EM, and not for the strictly forward-thinking, pioneering types. Sure there's always the same old snare rush to crash cymbal transition, obligitory acid bassline, choppy arpeggiations, detuned and syncropated melody, and a progressive structure. Some people like it, alot don't.
Still, there are a decent number of tracks that are both emotional and unique in their progression, and even the tracks that sound the same can be mixed to create a new and more engaging progression, just like many other types of trance.

I think the more aggressive psytrance is great for driving in traffic. Gives me an adrenalin rush at times and keeps me alert. But I guess there's lots of music that could reproduce that effect.

by the time i need a new job, these people will have successfully completed their next round of research and probably decriminalisation of certain plant-based items will render this online info irrelevant, or the seeking it out to be rendered ignorant.
yg said: "find out you run that netlabel -> search deeper on that netlabel -> find out about em411 -> learn about your drug usage -> great job opportunity -> there you go."

but, in case you worry or are parnoised, try replacing "I" and "me" and "we" and "us" with "SWIM"

it is smarter than incriminating yourself, no?

since when it is allowed to say i like psytrance on the em411?
haven't you all read the faq?

Yeah, psytrance is shit and that's that.

(with the exception of Simon Posford's old stuff)
psytrance? is that anything like Psyingo????

whats the drug that makes you actually like house music?

I consider trance as part of a totally different paradigm.
There's forward thinking music, and there's music designed purely for aural stimulation (sex, if you will).

I find that psytrance does a great job at making me dance and feel good, and I use it for that purpose, and it's made for that purpose. If you start thinking about it, it's going to seem stupid.
Same thing with uplifting melodic trance, which I also listen to regularly.

Show me some respectable, forward thinking music that makes me as "blissed out" as melodic trance does, and I'll scarf it up. Frankly, I haven't seen it yet, so I revert to listening to people who are doing the same thing over and over again.

i hate psytrance so much. i usually try not to be negative about whole genres of music. But psytrance can get fucked.

exactly .. trance isnt about production wankery, or innovation ..its not even about ecstatic euphoria like all the kids will tell you... its about putting you into a trance, achieving a different state of mind. its a drug in music form, and combines well with lots of other drugs too. techno has many elements that can do the same thing, but you dont need funk to put you in a trance. . you just need repeating elements, and some suggestive sounds to push you in certain directions.. alot of non-psy trance has lots its basic purpose of causing the trance, and so sounds horrible. . psytrance too isn't all focused on causing an altered state these days anymore either... basically alot of people have become distracted with euphoria, or production quality, and left the 'trance' idea out of trance.

is this going to become the kvr411?

ie elevaator music to make your brain rot. this 'euphoric trance state' bullshit id something that comes down to a few plugin presets, formulaic and cynical. is your brain that easy to control? its a lot harder to make someone dance and think (and i dont mean idm, i mean good techno) than to push some oobvious buttons in sheep heads. sorry its just wound me up. it just angers me now that america is eating up the same trance crap that this country grew out of a few years back. you guys pretty much invented house and techno and continue to produce the best and most innovative examples of that genre. i think it was phillip sherbourne that pointed out that the main reason middle america is eating up trance is because the europeans took the template and technology and took out everything that was gay and black . remember disco sucks? that was the same thing
