--> I know we have been bantering alot about em411 this and that and ontopic discussions versus offtopic ones.

I would personally like to mention how significant I believe this community is.

I have never met a more colorful group of individuals and have never felt like I have found real friends on the internet alone. Until I found EM411. Between the raw humor and the very honest critiques that I run into, I feel that as an artist, this place is a thriving flexable environment where I know I can be expected to present and temper my own vision as an artist. This is the first time a group of producers and artists spread across the US and abroad has responded to any of my work and have made me feel to some extent that I am among peers who will apreciate as quickly as they will sit down and be honest about what is missing.

I do not think that I am a virtuosic person, but I know that I have a vision for my music that may or may not see the light of day, but here at em411, I will always have ears to listen and THAT is absolutly important to me.

And I can come home from work and hear new music that people I know are writing. If I was just "stuck in florida" with no way to breathe in new art from a thriving base of engaged and focused musicians, I think I would suffocate here. So. For Better or worse. Its em411 and we are all learning from it I hope.

well, as someone new to posting more on here, but as someone who has kept an eye on things for quite a while (and posted from time to time), i can say that i think it rocks. i guess there are old friends and cliques and people who know of better times here but i think that's all good. i don't worry too much about how i am perceived, i just hope to listen to some cool tunes, chat with some interesting people and who knows, maybe even come out from behind my computer one day and head to a meet somewhere.

as someone who built the first two websites and message boards for the streets, i saw an amazing community that changed loads over time...sometimes due to 'original memebers' being protective, sometimes due to new people being cocks. yes, sometimes it wasn't funny, sometimes it was frustrating but what remained was a core of people who respect (even love) each other. i think that's a great thing. i for one have a couple of people i really care for through this, which is nice.

ooh, and through EM411 I have PAWEL to really care about now...

i think ultimately, there's no reason to complain because: if you post something interesting, you will get interesting replies. and that's good. it's pretty easy to ignore stuff that's stupid. unless you just get yer panties in a wad everytime makes a fart joke.

if you think this place sucks, go to the vintagesynth forums or DOA, or fuggin harmony central.

there are quite a fair amount of threads where people i really do care about got insulted lately. roshi just being an example.
i think that does not qualify for your theory: post good things and you get good things in response. because that's complete bullshit.

if people on here hated a tune i had made, and i loved it, that would worry me but apart from that, i consider any bullshit a minor distraction. generally the quality of comment on here is great - IMHO. how did the sentiments expressed by utofbu end up here anyway!?

by the way - off topic - i see you are from Muenchen. I love your city! I hope you do, I think you are very lucky to live there

yeah, Munich is lovely. I went there once to visit my friend Veronika, who gave me a bike from the 40s which didn't have any breaks and then went wizzing off to an audition. I found out about the breaks the hard way... I had to stop myself on a car at a red light! not good. But the city... amazingly beautiful. Expensive though. But really pretty. Loved that park in the center of town where I was surprised to see people wandering naked. ! (Oh how I love naked people. Actually, they scare me alittle. There's something zombie-ish about a nude man or woman.)

i definitely agree with both yggy and fredo to a degree.. and I also have these nostalgic moments, but in the end everything that em411 did for me a few years ago still has an effect on me, regardless of whether I agree with how the site works now.. i just don't participate in the ongoing chatter about (to me..) pointless in-jokes.. and music-wise the site always was kind of divided into different "camps" i suppose.. i just can't lay my finger on those anymore - in the "old" em411-days you always noticed when there was a new release posted on it and usually checked it out (well, I did) - now it's way too much to digest.

and hey, greg, don't feel bad, a lot of the lack of comments probably has to do with how releases work nowadays I think.. unfortunate but here to stay it seems.

Well, this site is basically what you make of it. I try and contribute blog entries that are either a) music related or b) funny/interesting or c) personal. Those seem to be the ones of mine that people enjoy. But I try and keep my blogs music related now.

I have stopped contributing to the "suggest me gear" threads cause I always want people to choose my gear and that never happens.

I love the off topics, some of them really make my day. Like the sandwich thread.

The trolls are well, nasty. I had a really bad day yesterday because of all the nasty comments a certain troll posted about me. But I keep coming back, cause most of you guys are always great and supportive.

i still (mostly) love this place. i've been here almost since the beginning of the site and while it's lost a bit of its initial charm and i wish for the same things that most others wish for, it's still a good hang and some very interesting discussions still occur.

i do wish the trolling/senseless flaming would stop, but that's because i don't understand what motivates someone to want to do it.
