link

This strikes me as a good idea. I'm posting this here in case there's support from other (especially UK) folks who might not have already seen this.

(I'm aware that there are folks who'd rather not read about politics stuff here. I can sympathise, and i'll try to balance this kind of thing with primarily music related posts too)

Other Stuff

Numerology: who's using it? Itching to give this a try this week. Thoughts? reviews?

The butcher: maxmsp device link would it be possible to use this as a plugin somehow? (of would it need converting by someone who owns max msp into a different format?)

how would u feel if someone went around pledging to give a bible, a qoran, or whatever to every mp huh? think about it

i hope that statement was supposed to be facetious?

it was supposed to elicit the image of someone else's prepackaged beliefs being shoved in ur face.

you mean something like those types that come a knockin on your door and stop you at bus stops and shit for a little 'chat about their savior' ?

correct.

two wrongs don't make a right. if someone tried to force any book on me i'd tell them to shove it.

i always accept the reading material they shove in yer boat. some of it is really quite amusing.
they gave me a new testament once....years ago....it was really booring but quite funny in places.

Thats exactly what it is and I make no apology for it. Part of an MPs job is to represent his constituency. Sending my MP a book is just as much 'shoving my beliefs in their face' as writing them a letter is. Should we feel bad about writing to our mps? of course not, it's part of their job to understand what motivates the members of constituency, and to represent them.

So I could write a letter to my MP expressing my thoughts on the subject, but Dawkins has already skillfully compiled them in a much more readable and persuasive way than i ever could. I'd be selling my case short if i didn't use his 'prepackaged' version.

if the majority of the public were against invading iraq and the mp's then voted for it they clearly don't represent the views of their constituents. this whole nu-athiesm lark is like a petulant teenage game. if you want to make a difference there more immediate less frivolous things you can be doing - or you can just pull-off self congratulating stunts and shake your head at everyone elses stupidity.

'i demand my rights as an athiest!' - get in line, the roads need fixing, the yobs need asbos, old people are freezing to death cos of heating bills, people are being taxed out of their jobs, abused by the police, etc etc yadda yadda

a stunt like this is on the same level as a stoner writing to their mp complaining how weed is illegal. and that's all it is, a silly stunt.

ya, but dude, that's an awfully long-winded way to make a point, no? and what exactly is your point?

edit: i appreciate ur enthusiasm though, and wish u the best in ur pursuits. i, like you, desire radical changes in this world. i think we are doing well.

sure its long-winded. There might be better ways of making this point. But i think this is a pretty good way, and the popularity of the book acts as a focal point which means there might be enough subscribers to pull it off - as well as guaranteeing the project more media attention if it gets underway.

The point, since you asked, is to emphasize the message that religious belief shouldn't be accorded any more respect than we accord any other belief that's held without sufficient evidence (and needless to say, this has political implications). But at the moment religious beliefs are treated with kid gloves, and in many cases society differs to irrational religious convictions. I'd rather not discussing that here again though.

if you don't want to talk about it, please stop opening the door.

you asked what exactly the point was, so i answered.. i don't want to hash it all out again here though again (we can pm about it maybe).

fair enuff
