"I will arrange for my MP to receive a copy of Richard Dawkins' book "The God Delusion" but only if 645 other people (one per UK constituency) will do the same for other MPs."

This strikes me as a good idea. I'm posting this here in case there's support from other (especially UK) folks who might not have already seen this.
(I'm aware that there are folks who'd rather not read about politics stuff here. I can sympathise, and i'll try to balance this kind of thing with primarily music related posts too)
Other Stuff
Numerology: who's using it? Itching to give this a try this week. Thoughts? reviews?
The butcher: maxmsp device link would it be possible to use this as a plugin somehow? (of would it need converting by someone who owns max msp into a different format?)

Again, i think you're misconstruing my pov. I don't want to ban religion, i don't want to force people to think in a certain way. I'm trying to persuade people of the validity of the ideas i believe in.
Did darwin show lack of empathy by publishing the origin of species? seriously, i'm curious whether you think so or not. (no: i'm not trying to compare myself to darwin, i hope it goes without saying - just trying to get a handle on what you mean by empathy in this context))

i don't see any difference between you trying to persuade people of the validity of the ideas you believe in and other people trying to persuade me of theirs - and i think both are wrong.
i get the impression you think it's okay to actively persuade people that there is no god - i put it that way but i could have said 'teach them the errors of their ways' because it amount to the same thing. you think that's okay - but you'd think a religious person trying to make a believer out of someone is wrong? yes? so you see yourself as two oppositions fighting over the souls of the people! - it is exciting!

i favor cbit in this debate. this is my 0.02... everyone has a right to their beliefs and opinions. everyone has a right to belief whatever they want to believe. whether it's flying spaghetti monsters, witchcraft, God, or a cosmic accident and biological evolution, these are all beliefs (whether or not they have phyiscal, "concrete" evidence they are still beliefs of which people hold). and everyone has a right to them. no one should be prosecuted or held in contempt for their beliefs.
now, here's where i probably stray a bit from other ppl here: i believe there are no harmful beliefs. i don't belief one belief to be more "right" than another. to me, a belief is a belief. and as a whole, they comprise our mass reality (HAHA YES I SAID OUR BELIEFS COMPRISE OUR MASS REALITY!!)
BUT the point is, and allow me to reiterate, there are no harmful beliefs. no one should be thought of as "less" or "less vaid" of a person, because of their beliefs. it's intolerance that gets us into trouble methinks...
btw, bsr, did u make it to the end of this post? no? do u hate me now? i'm sorry. :*

I always thought Dawkins was a fairly natural reaction to having Orthodix Chrisitianity taught in mandatory public schools.

I got thrown out of biology class when I argued with my teacher, who claimed Darwin and the evolution was nothing but lies, based on her religious beliefs.
This is not a argument between religions- this is a argument if somebodies thoughts of higher powers should control other peoples lives. Making governments and commonwealth functions independent of religion does not exclude anyone, more rather the opposite.
