I dont understand why the people in SL don't go out and do things for real. The frame rate is way better.

its a gimmick. not to mention useless.

@ skab

just move to los angeles, california and live there for a couple of years to see just what "mass alienation syndrome" is all about. it's in full effect there.

hey, i love that book

let me know when this thing gets real enough for me to plug myself in vr-style so i can hack dweebs with a samurai sword when i need to vent.

till that day comes, i'm busy elsewhere

LOLOLOL!

i usually am against anything that increases teh alienation. and especially the ALIEN nation. they walk amongst us!

but playing at work cause you're bored? that's what 80% of em411 is right? i know that describes me. i don't ever go online outside of work time.

i read an article on wired.com where a lady made close to $1 million selling things on second life (virtual real estate i think). that is fucking genius. i don't see people being able to make that kind of money for too long. while it's fresh and new, okay maybe. but after a while people have got to wonder why they are paying $ for digital clothes or houses, right? for the ones that made their money early and quick... god they have to be laughing all the way to the bank.

"go outside" or "waste of time" aren't really applicable - that could be said of great literature or music for that matter.

I've tried SL, found it a little dull, but I'm probably used to games and prefer my VR a little more structured. However, we should all be happy that people are trying it out and seeing what the possibilities are. For example, the machinima possibilities alone of an open-ended, hackable VR world like SL are mindboggling and could potentially have a big effect on storytelling in general.

I suppose SL isn't really a game, it's a beta version of a new OS. Or a new internet. And yes I've heard that the creators were very much inspired by Snow Crash.

snow crash is the bees knees...also, lawnmower man 2 anyone? ;)

I tried to run it once, but either my computer or the internet connection isn't fast enough. I sat for 5 minutes trying to get my character to turn around, and gave up. There are so many other things I can be pissed having to wait for.

Seriously, can someone put that guy out of his misery? Blech."

LOMFGL that was fucking hilarious! hahahaha

i see nagrom had mentioned snow crash before I did. sorry 'bout that. all these posts, like so much snow.

what's better than Bono? CyBono!

lol at the drumsticks coming out of the drummer's hand meat..... that reminds me, gotta get back to my meat suit.

also LOL at his second costume and wonky head band....whoa, looks like the turnout is better than usual.

edit: I can't get the goddamn utube to embed! >=(

again, wtf is a meat suit?

A suit made out of meat.

Pork would be acceptable, but beef is funnier.
