--> So I was 'listening' to merzbow the other afternoon and wondering how you might use such noisy racket to actually hurt someone. This first link is a really interesting article on 'Sonic Warfare' link This second article talks about a weapon used in Iraq for a couple of years link This whole area is quite interesting to me. To be fair though, one wonders why you need to spend so much money on hi-techery when a decent sound-system and some chart music might suffice. I guess that's what they did in Vietnam...

Either way, found this interesting...

alot of the actually useful sonic weapons, not the 'omg this is annoying music' sonic weapons require really good high quality amps and speakers, alot of higher freq's can fuck with a person and freqs above 20khz get kinda hard to reporduce on consumer grade equipment.

ps. i hear 19.8 hertz can make your eyeballs vibrate. try it.

Some restaurants and businesses here in ottawa play classical or cheesy music outside so the teenagers don't loiter. Cause mozart ain't cool.

Kind of like those high pitched sonic devices for deterring bugs or pigeons... but for humans.

yeah, well, peizo drivers are apparently some of the best to use for sonic experimentation.

try this shit sometime. i did it, only subjected myself to it tho... after about 10 minutes i got nauseus and dizzy... im sure i could have gotten better results with better equipment tho.

woody norris - the guy i posted earlier - is the inventor behind most of those american tech corp things. mad ideas - the way they actually function is amazing. similar technology he invented is also used in supermarkets to specifically target certain stands...to make specific ads, without polluting the surrounding area (oh, that's detailed on the ATC site too). if you can, check MAKE issue 5...has a full article on him. next he is going to crack gravity

the british government used these sorts of sound weapons against Irish prisoners in the 70s/80s, locking (usually innocent of everything but being irish) people in rooms with white noise and really high freqs was a popular interrogation method, and there are unconfirmed reports of incapacitating sound cannons being used against rioters. and you wonder why we hate the cunts.
