To steal is to claim what doesn't belong to us and call it ours. Does the body which we call 'our body' and this mind which we call 'our mind' really belong to us? Is the act of having children ourselves an act of pirating Gods initial creation? Will God come down and smite all those that have had kids? I think that would be the funniest thing in the world if that happened.
He who is not grateful; he who enjoys what is given to him by the bountiful Nature without giving thanks, and offering sacrifices; such a one is verily a thief. 'The good, eating only what is left over from sacrifice, are freed from all sin; but they who prepare and consume only for themselves without offering and sharing, those sinful ones eat sin.'
So this way you can clearly see that sharing is caring and to not share is Thievery and sin eating sin. Because what is ours is not really ours anyway and clearly and again you see that Sin is Different from Piracy and Piracy is not Thievery because Piracy is still not the act of calling something your own when it is not. It is though, a word created and applied to something that we want to control and in order to do that we have to and cast the word 'piracy' in a particular light, taking something that is intended for sharing and speeding up the process. Look at what applying the word Piracy has done to the evil music and entertainment industry (well the larger music and entertainment industry anyway)...it has sped up the process that we receive movies from the theater, have crappy soundtracks available faster than ever before and the digital age of exchanging, record companies who have flat out missed the boat have given rise to less need for such labels. Now its all a big argument over control and this has nothing to do with the essence of music at all. they have created a niche to bring more attention to themselves and their problems within their organization.
By 'it' I mean 'tit' and by 'tit' I mean 'your tit'. -Sarah Silverman

I like your logics. They are fun and interesting, and a bit out there.
People who say that download is the same as stealing are really reading too far into what stealing is. If you can say downloading albums is stealing, then you can also say that those who believe downloading music is steal is to agree with Metallica, who are known sell outs. By this logic, you are also a sell out for associating with Metallica's ideals. Basically, none of it makes any sense.

interesting. i'm not sure what you're trying to say, or convey here, though. it seems a touch rambly... but at any rate, i agree that sharing is caring, and that sharing is truest in nature (especially given the current circumstances of the worldy environs, not so much at certain times is "sharing is caring" true, especially as there are no constants).
i don't, however, belive in sin. nor sacrifice. nor any spiteful god. for what it's worth. ;)

But we make music because we believe in something? Or is it all for nothing? nothing really was trying to be said or conveyed though. I tend to vomit words that are not necessarily of mine own doing but rather to spark a reaction even if its an um ok. Like how people make music. I'm definitely not here to talk morality. And yes I would agree that none of this makes any sense. Except the Sarah Silverman line

pfft.. what DOES make sense.. besides math.
it depends on how deep you go.
personally "i make music because it is fun and i like it" is pretty fuckin shallow. but whatever i guess, not everyone is out to have music mean something.

A few of what i think are the main reasons:
* We're rewarded by the sound of it, that has it's own fascination
* We're rewarded by demonstrating to ourselves that we can accomplish the magic/mastery act of design/creation, which is also fascinating in its own right
* Perhaps we're attracted to the thought that other people will admire our skills, we're driven to improve our reputation (our genes 'want' that)
* Especially if you're a guy, then your genes likely 'want' you to engage in displays of virtuosity (technical/artistic including music making) for sexual selection reasons.
I think there are enough reasons close to hand.
