or shaved cats eating bacon?

I've made a decent sum of cash doing it.. I dont really look for the gigs, that's the secret! you need to have friends in the ad agency world.. I've written stuff for apple, levis, espn, niketown (actually a full environmental album for nike) and the french world cup. all of these have come through people I have known at ad agencies and the companies themselves. none of these have come about because of my compositional skills, none of these had come about because I was slinging demos. you need to think about this for a while if you are serious about scoring.. (okay, it was mostly because I had friends at TBWA Chiat Day, Deutsch and Weiden & Kennedy)

ha!
I just called my cousin in law who does video stuff for geico (like training videos, not comercials, that would be too good.)
he said he'd call me next time something came up!

thanks for the idea col3man and frtnr!!

I heard it's really hard to break into. You pretty much have to be friends with people who hook you up w/ add agencies. A lot of the production companies have their own in-house music makers who just crank out the jingles like a garage based meth lab.

frnortnr: what about that link sAMsKi posted yesterday?

i met a friend of a friend who is a film cameraman/editor. he likes my music so sticks it on his work in the edit. personally knowing people helps. also i am on some peoples books for library music. they tend to like the safe stuff if you know what i mean.

hey frnortnr - it's been mentioned here, but i'd like to reiterate based on my experiences in los angeles... licensing is the way to go. or the stock music cds that radio stations buy at inflated prices. start local. good luck! btw -i hope you stomp everyone at the laptop battle.

Damn jingle writers.

I got the "588-2300 Empire" jingle in my head now.

nice pictures cc. makes me think of bladerunner.

"Fiery the angels fell; deep thunder roared around their shores; burning at the fires of Orc."

Fredo:
"nothing wrong with that, ulrike. Let's face it, we need money to eat, and to keep up our creative studios. I don't think there is any shame in trying to make money doing what you love."

yes fredo, i'm down with that... the sigh was a sigh of longing to make money making music!

LETS HEAR SOME JINGLES

ok here are 2 i made awhile ago to bee set to a car commercial.

thanks for the tips and opinions, i guess i do know some peeps so i'm gonna send some emails and see what i can find.

and lol sohcahtoa, we still got it.

don't sell nothin. sign up with ascap or bmi to license your tunes. if you decide to cut the middle man and work for a media shop or car dealership, make sure you're on the up and up with their tax id number to file at the end of the year. if they want to pay under the table, refuse the job. if they're not legit in their taxes, chances are they're not legit in other areas of business. these are not the type of people you want to freelance for.
