--> Well, I just got a letter from Bard College that says, "we're pleased to inform you that we've given you a spot on our wait-list!"
With my second-semester performance (notably my inevitable flunking of computer science), that's probably not going to happen.

So, I'll likely be attending Concordia University in Montreal from Computation Arts / Computer Science next year.

Montreal EMers, here I (presumably) come!

o rly? did you take any classes with teitelbaum? i was his teaching assistant when i was there. bard was a WEIRD place. cool, but weird.

I recommend you get a degree in either philosophy, sociology, english, history, literature or archeology... you'll be guaranteed to find a very high paying job as soon as you graduate.

stroid- college town usa = canada... except that we have fewer frats and sororities ... and more weed.

I actually applied for Philosophy as well... still considering doing that instead.

Ultimately I plan to transfer after a year, so the question is whether all the intro Com. Sci. + math courses are worth it.

hehe DeltaSleep and I are enjoying the bottom of the barrel in the USA. Middle Tennessee State University I'm about to graduate with a 3.1 and a 156 LSAT which should be good enough to get me in a slightly below average lawschool and ultimately a menial administrative position.

Don't smoke too much pot. Now that I'm relatively clean I have a 3.8, I used to have a 2. Skrewed my GPA. I suppose the LSD, Shrooms, Coke, Speed, 2ci Doc, Doa, Etc. etc. might have had something to do with it too though. Pot's bad for you.

good advice about the pot.. I'm somewhat of a binge-smoker and while still at university that unnecessarily dampened my motivation in a couple of situations where it would have been good to get involved more actively. on the other hand I finished last year with honors (in media arts heh) - with a documentary that features interviews and concerts with mostly drunk/stoned em411 regulars hehehe. ;)

Hehe...well, I'm sure those drugs that you mentioned previously are a bit naughty. I'd say, don't start drinking loads of caffeine. That's what I did and I became really irritable and angry all the time. As for the pot...if you do smoke, be sure to balance it out with a lot of caffeine ;o)

moderation w/the very occasional semi-bender under the right circumstances is fine. just don't be a dumb ass.

just remember one of hunter s. thompson's many mantras: "sex drugs and rock n' roll. doesn't work for everyone BUT IT WORKED FOR ME!"
montreal is incredible.
learning french will open more doors for you.
and by doors I mean super-hot ladies. jk

also, it has a great/diverse music and art scene.
I hope to live there at some point.

exit the city limits, though, and you'll feel afraid.
Especially if you're not white or French speaking.

Oh yeah, be sure to eat some poutine while you're there.

It's not dirty...just greasy! link

Congratulations. Either way seems like a win win situation. I've known some people who went to both schools and loved them both. From a social/having fun perspective I agree with da others in saying Montreal is the place to go. (strong EM happenings + smoked Bagels + jaw dropping ladiez = oh la la omfg). The Winter does seem a little harsh though (but probably a good time to focus on school/being creative).

Try to actually learn something... I spent way too much time slacking off (and wasting $$$) in college. This would consist of not doing nearly all the required reading and generally not caring at points. I just happen to do well, because I'm a master slacker (3.81 gpa, with moderate effort.... I happen to have the ablity to get my shit together at the last second, but have some grey hair because of it).

Heh, thanks for the drug lectures. ;)
I've smoked quite a bit of pot, but it doesn't seem to have the same euphoric effect on me that it does for other smokers.
I do it (only occasionally) for the mental images.

that looks like a shit storm.

Hey nice to see an EMer moving in my city. You'll have much fun living here I swear. The women are indeed amazing and the electronic scene is getting bigger and bigger. You'll have to go see the SAT's (society of arts and technologies) activities as well as the Mutek festival, Elektra festival, plus the weekly electronic shows in a lot of bars and clubs. Learning french might indeed be handy, but the majority of montrealers speaks both english and french (especially the students).

subset : Exit the city limits, though, and you'll feel afraid. Especially if you're not white or French speaking.

Even if you are white and French you don't want to go outside of Montreal, it's pretty boring. Unless you want to pass some time in nature, which can be found in about 45 minutes in car.

If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer you.

Oh and the best poutine to be found is at the Banquise (near down-town)... ;) , best thing to eat after a night out drinking alcohol. The grease absorb alcool like you have never see and you wake up top shape!
