roffle @ astroid- you are so right, dude. I think a lot of western-ish things done by asian cultures get seen as bad approximations incorrectly. Theres a lot of great vietnamese and thai pop that came around in the 1960s-70s that in some ways sounds like motown and gets passed off as copies of that- but if you listen carefully to the arrangements, they're mind blowing.
Now, when westerners do things that are sort of asian, its usually horrid. Just look at the things they are doing to tea.
