--> So. I'm contemplating going to college and getting a degree. Thing is, I'm 26 yrs now, and have been working full time since I was 19. No college education to speak of (a little part time math and that's it).

Has anyone here been in the same position, perhaps done the same thing? Frankly, the prospect scares the living hell out of me, yet the prospect of becoming stuck in a rut because I lack a proper theoretical background scares me even more.

Edit: The program I'm looking at is 5 years long.

do it crabster!

i went to uni when i was 18. complete waste of time. i got my degree, but didn't really learn anything - i just learned how to repeat what i'd been taught in an educated way. all of my friends at uni were older (mid-twenties to thirties). plus, you'll have more pulling kudos thanks to your age ;)

fact: college is the best place to meet dating partners

yes.. it is a very large dating pool.

i have a friend who is going back to school now as well. he's in his first semester. i think he's about your age if not a year or two older. my mom went back to school and became a teacher when my parents got divorced. she was in her 30's then.

why not? i see no reason not to go back to school. it's never too late .. you're never to old...

i didn't go to college until i was almost 23. do it!!

I just graduated...it was a wicked time. Though I wish I would have studied music technology or something other than history...but History is fun.

Do it...

do it .... im 23 and am about to completly change my major .. not that im that far along ...

but .... youll be armed with a much better perspective than most students .... keep focus and youll excell .. do it ... doooo it .

Ahem, my girlfriend might have an objection or two about that

Thanks for all the input guys. Really.

well, then my vote is not to go.
what kind of work are you doing?

what kind of work would you like to be doing?

it will only do good

cc: I work as a consultant, writing "business" applications for various industries (Java or C#).

I want to move into desktop and/or embedded application programming, perhaps audio.

jdg: The more the merrier?

i say do the course!

ive got a degree in art (drawing and painting)
i graduated nearly 5 years ago. 19 when i started.
I had a great time, but it didn't prepare me for the "real world" at all.
The people who really thrived at art school were the older students, who could really appreciate the luxuries of the art school environment.

ive been doing a variety of things since.
im 27 now, and starting to freak out about the future.
im now thinking seriously about going back to uni to get a teaching qualification.

good luck!

are you swedes progressive with multiple sexual partners?!?!?!?

also, does the school cost alot? i dont know how school works over there.
but the only way i'd go back to school is if it was paid for somehow with grants/etc/etc
