--> Planning a cellar studio, did a quick layout in sketchup (funny friendly 3d app from google link ).

In particular it'd be ace if people with acoustics smarts could take a look at these plans and maybe make suggestions, identify problems etc.

I'm planning on fitting bass traps too (either bought or DIY) so thoughts about how these could be best employed would be superb tooo.

thanks!

LOL i know.. i mis-rememered the other day and bleen shot me with his salt filed shotgun

honestly, sir bla, talent and skill will beat out accoustics everytime.

im fucked then

just use headphones! then a/b your mixes on everything.

or write microhouse, it should fit in your small room just fine

ive read that acoustic link stuff now
my room is bad
too small
too cubic
cant really put my speakers anywhere symmetrical
and theres a massive reflective rack cabinet in the middle of the room- theres really nowhere else it can go
im just going to cover every surface with weird random shit to make it look cool and do all my mixing in silence staring at my analyser

bla-

if monitor at a decent volume.. nothing too loud.. that will help. also, if you learn your room and how mixes translate then you'll be fine. i had a studio that was half in my kitchen in a corner for while and then another one in a corner of a bedroom w/big windows etc.

my friend gasp just finished his record (to be released soon) and his last set up was in a corner in his bedroom and one of his tweeters was blown. he a/b'd his mixes a lot and did a final run through on some better monitors ina decent room just to check things and he only changed a few things. and his mixes are dope.

so don't be discouraged if your room doesn't meet some acoustic designer's specs. as long as you know your space and your monitors etc.. you'll be golden.

thanks especially ig and jdg for teh tips, im a bit drunk now but i will study them with due attention presently.
de nada maeng

i'm sure you'll get it sorted

the only thing i was really serious about was your outfit

I'd get a horn for yer bike - a bell's just gonna resonate like a MF.

put the speakers on wooden blocks with sand in em - those quiklock things azre too shaky for massive speakers and the sheer volume of the sand help with vibrations
symmetry is good facing forward, behind your back asymmetry is better imo
you wont need a lot of basstraps if your room is more than 5 meters long

but this stuff is really worth its weight in gold (actually its pretty lightweight)
link

and this goes on the ceiling between your listening position and your board
link

thanks for the links bb01. holy heck that ceiling panel is expensive!

aber es sorgt für Breitbandabsorbtion!! ;)
some stuff just sounds more pro in german
maybe neumann mics wouldnt sell if they were called joe crabtree inc.
