I am putting a jam party together at my coommercial space in williamsburg brooklyn.
When, Who, and How is still to be figured out.
1st plan of action is to get some of you (live electronic artists) to play and or to get involved.
What I have:
Sound System
-two 600 watt double 15' and horn speakers
-600 watt stereo amp
-small mixer for input
-stereo compressor
Space
-600 + sq feet 13 ft ceilings
-couches, chairs, some tables
-lots of black lights and candles
-bathroom and small fridge
-split into main room and two chill out spaces with curtians
Wireless internet
Drums (will most likely be put away)
One crappy microphone
No neighbors or other tenants living near by (be as loud as late as we need)
One block from the J Lorimer station
Ideas so far:
I'd like to do this often, as a place to hang and listen to live elctronic music in a "real" atmosphere for meeting and colaborating, unlike a club or bar scene.
I don't want people to pay, just bring drinks or smoke and chill
I think 5 artists is a good amount for each night, but time will tell
Anyone with a projector is god and we will praise you
I'd like to keep it to live electronic music, but DJs are a welcome too for sure.
Eventually when I get a loft area built, I'd want live bands to come and jam out

thats whats really going on here, it really just a lure to get all electronic musician to become trapped in brooklyn never to escape. the bridges will be knocked down and tall tall fences will be built out of razor sharp barbed wire. we will be slaved into making electronic music day and night, we will be payed nothing, and food will be slim to non, they will laugh at us as we have our little tribal meetings to bring what we have heard from the music gods to the village forum.

I'm able to afford it, but as far as a normal comfortable life, i feel i've givin that up temporarly. no matter, its not a priority. Craigslist will give you a good look at pricing for all types of spaces and all types of companies and individual's renting... it pretty much shows the whole spectrum.

When is your event?
I just read an article about Williamsburg Barcades on Yahoo news, sounds like a fun area.
I might be in NYC for NIME 2007 June 7-10. They are providing housing at Brooklyn Poly Tech. This conference is during the New York Electronic Art Festival, you should be able to tap into some talent from this group.

hopefully I will be able to come that weekend, I would like to meet some em'ers. I am out to nyc about every two months, but plane tickets are so cheap that I could do it even more often if need be.
