--> So I'm selling my Ensoniq SQ80 synth
link
mostly because I didn't really play it much anymore. I found the sounds cheezy and too much of a pain to program.

So, my question to you, what should I replace it with? (either on the Songbird site for tradein link or in general).

Please include the following in your evaluation:
- I like knobs that I can tweak while playing
- I love diiirrrirty analog sounds
- I hate clean sparkly sounds
- I hate "pads"
- I hate synths that try to emulate real instruments
- I like easily tweakable presets
- The one thing I liked about the SQ80 was that the pitch bend would create these great analog glitchly distortions
- I have a yamaha cs-5 which I love, but don't want 2 of these
- I don't like anything that sounds "eighties" or "nineties"

Many thanks in advance cowboys/cowgirls.

i liked the sq80 when i borrowed one. i wouldn't get rid. instead go and try some soft synths and a midi
controller. then if you are still missing sounds splash out on a nord or summit.

fairlight, fairlight, fairlight... my darling...

despite the recent backlash: a DSI evolver?
does 'dirty' very well and the desktop version is not really expensive either

i second that. it's cheap and cool enough that it's worth a try.

Yeah, the Evolver could be the one. I'll have to go and try it out. Seems like there's great range of dirty sounds that come from it. What "backlash" speaketh you of bodo?

I'd get the fairlight, but white would really mess up the color theme of my studio.

well, it seems that everyone here either sold theirs or is thinking about selling
(astroid, cbit, filarion, ...)

still love mine, now that I got the Vyzor editor to work it's even more fun (version 1.0 is out now)
the tuned feedback is really nice and can go from gentle into overdrive in less than seconds

it's very good feature-wise and it's just great to delve and get lost into
once you get used to the matrix editing and the abbreviations in the display it's really quick too

highly recommended!
ps: white goes with everything

astroid... you tell me it's good and you're selling yours? I hope this isn't some cruel plot to drive up the world demand for Evolvers so that you get more $ for it.

Thanks bodo... that's a great recommendation. Sound on Sound seems to like it too.

(ok ok, white would go fine... it's just that I wouldn't be able to play it after labour day)

ah .. the random pic thing... so what did you get?

yeah, random pic, me too
update
i ended up getting a MS2000 on ebay for $400 ...
decided I didn't like it... sold it ... ($800 at a local store!)
then built a paia modular... love this so far.

still don't have a poly synth though...
ejectorset's broken juno 106 is in the mail for me though, so we'll see.

Poly/Duo:
Akai AX60, Korg Polysix, Korg 800DV,Alesis A6
Mono:
Macbeth M3X, Moog LP, Polyvox, Korg MS20

Or just run your current synth through a zvex fuzz factory.
