So, I'm getting married soon. Tomorrow in fact. I feel like I should be a big frazzled ball of stress, but thankfully it's just a tiny ceremony and not the big elaborate production type of wedding that drives me crazy. After that it's off to the west coast of Canada for a week of much-needed relaxation up there in them mountains. I feel so lucky...sometimes life works out exactly the way you had always hoped. This is one of those times.

Elsewhere in my life, I've been spending the last year working with my friend Sean towards putting together a proper studio...not only for ourselves but also as an attempt at "business". I've spent the last 6 years in a "good job", but at the end of the day my heart just isn't in it, so I need to make use of the good credit I've built up and now seems like the best possible time in my life to attempt a venture like this. Once we have secured the right space (which up to now has been the biggest hurdle, even more so than scraping together funds) I'll likely make more use of this blog to post our progress.

I know setting up a studio seems like financial suicide in this day and age, but where we are located there is definitely a hole that we both believe we can fill. Sean has formal engineering training and studio experience, and I'm the utterly obsessed self-taught recording hack. We balance each other out quite nicely. Plus we've been good friends for more than a decade, so that'll help. Even if we fail miserably, I'd rather go through the rest of my life knowing I tried than end up sitting at this same
desk 20 years from now wondering what happened.

Anyways, that's pretty much me in a nutshell. Musically I've been keeping a low profile for the last year, but I'm finding myself with more free time lately so hopefully that will change. Lately my music time is spent getting deeper into the G2, which is like a gift from the synth gods.

Oh yeah, I saw Phantasm for the first time ever a few nights ago. I liked it in the same way I like the original Dawn of the Dead, but it's not as good. The Tall Man is great though.

Mmkay, bye for now.

woo! Marriage! rad! very exciting stuff dude. and good for you for goin for the studio thing too. I'd love to read more about it.

Congrats Doug on the marriage and the studio venture.

Congrats, man! My lady and I tied the knot recently as well...Groundhog Day, in fact. We pretty much just went to the courthouse but some relatives flew in anyway. I think it was a lot better that way...just about 15 people that I really care about and no weirdo personality clash haven't-seen-you-since-you-were-four or where's-the-booze shit. I guess we're going to have another separate ceremony in Hawaii in Sept.but that will be mostly Japanese people that I haven't met yet.

We were shacked up before so very little has changed. But it's nice to be formally commited, it's relieving.

love the pics dude. yay!

thumbs up to marriage & the new venture - hope you have great success on both fronts

One year on - hows things working out Doug?
