--> <-- Hello,

i am an extreme windows user, but i had some money at my hand and spent it on an iBook from ebay.

its specs are:

800MHz G3 PPC
256MB RAM
30GB HD
12" Display
and MAC OS X Jaguar
with english keyboard layout
it came with NOTHING but the iBook, power adapter and software on hd

and ahhh it's WAY more quiet than the laptop with windowas i am using (best feature yet)

It is fun to buy used computers, because there is always some stuff left, in this case A LOT of pictures and dorky videos, saved passwords for gmail accounts (!) and various software. no pron though

i spent quite a while fiddling around with the OS, but i still have near to no idea how to deal with the apple at all. BUT i am learning fast.

so i hope you welcome me as a new apple mac user and give me some tips:

will it run os x tiger properly?
what about audio? can i have som fun with ableton live on this system?
best free synths (links please)? what format are they anyway? vst? what is AU and will i be able to use it?

prev. owner said there are some widgets that change all the icons (really shitty looking icons) so how can i change the icons back to the default ones?

so, i am not "installing" apps (like windows), i am "mounting" a *.dmg file - and then?
how do i "uninstall" correctly?

where can i get a small german schuko plug for the little white power adapter?

where can i find neat (free) applications for everything that i got to HAVE on the iBook?

please give some general tips for using this ppc and os?

i like how it is "sleeping" and when i open it up, ZAP, its there

erm, theres also os 9 on it with programs (im using a "sticky" notepad whis good for quick notes on desktop

thanks for the link tape!

the "sleep" and "wake" functions of OSX laptops are amazing.. its stuff like that, that makes me glad crapple is a closed hardware shop.

also, i would find a 7200rpm drive for that thing... all the speed you can get, in whatever form will be helpful.
those G3s are slowwwwwwwwww.

also, i had a white ibook for along while.. i did this to it: link
mine was red tho.

wow i would have left it transparent must look dope assembled

maybe i'll start a coulour project sometimes too, but mines gonna be PINK (+ some pink fake fur on the edges) to make it look a bit more masculin
a friend already called it a "womans handbag", a "toy" and whatnot. i guess he's just a bit jealous the old

looks surprisingly similar to the newer line of macbooks.

and the specs aren't half bad either. they're equivalent to my older 5 year old e-machines.

That iBook still has the powerpc processor though,

welcome to the world of macs

we're technically unix users as well

on the computer technical side of things it's a much more in depth operating system than windows with a glossy, minimal frontend

concerning the icons.
highlight the icon, that you want to change -> apple+i for ivoking the information window for the app/icon/whatever -> click on the little icon within the information window, so it highlights. now just press backspace and it should revert to its original icon

well that din't work. i had it highlighted but the iBook has no backspace key whatsoever! pressed a bunch of others but to no avail

meh a reinstall of osx sgould fix this for good

uh, where du i find this app wutsitcalled "argayespontes lyre"? thats is something i am keen on testing for quite wahile is it standalone or do in need maxmsp

link

for deleting icons
look here
link

yay! your da man!

did it work out?
the icon stuff?

actually no, it didn't

i was happy about that lyre link! see, you suggested to look at his stuff in your first post and i made a google search and got on his site but all i saw was a pic with a kid and hidden links that led only to song lyrics... then i lost interest and chased a butterfly outside

ha.

those more academic peeps. they know how to turn away an ads-kid

lol your an ass
