--> Needed a laptop, couldn't stand having both a laptop and a desktop. Got rid of the desktop machine, but not without backup everything up.

Except, of course, ALOT OF FINISHED AND UNFINISHED TRACKS. Now lost to the dead sea of bits and bytes forever.

To be honest, it feels pretty good to be able to start over with a clean slate.

Also. Cubase on mac sucks serious ass. What are my options?

nice fish.

yeah massive song loss can be heartbreaking and then liberating.

mac host.. logic? live? one of those two would probably be your best bet. seems to me that logic is more like cubase than live, but live seems to have more going for it these days with its rapidly growing user base, crossplatformability, multi proc support..

plenty of live users here for helps too. even jdg uses live now.

yes, Live.

cubase is soooooo ass on the mac.
its workable tho! i did it for many years.. maybe several albums... i got over it.

oh dude i love it when that happens. starting fresh. i've done it many times myself. good luck with ur new adventures with ur new computer ^_^

props man...you'll enjoy :-)

and yes, Live is fun.

live is good until you notice things that suck, but by then you're kindof hooked ;)

are macs better than pcs?

live without an external editor = clicks and pops because it doesn't have a decent crossfade. but still you love it with all the power of your manly young adulthood

holy fcuk ...that man appears to be holding a dinosaur!

and then very very heartbreaking... ps- why can't I quote?

mlbot: In a word, no. Not worse either though.
astroid: Hmm, that's annoying. Got any other things that suck in live?

The quote thing broke awhile ago. Perhaps during the big upgrade? Don't remember.
Anyway, you can quote manually by writing quote=name inside [ ]

i've lost all my work lots of time. my new laptop comes anyday now, but i'm going to keep the old pc up & running for a bit to make sure i've not lost anything before i wipe it clean.

quote code's busted - seriously - the link is an absurdist joke we're all too dim to appreciate

there's a laundry list of little buggies in live, but it's still the hot shit. the file management leaves something to be desired. case in point-

i was working on a song that was all feedback-so it would rerecord over it's own audio on a loop. im going, tweaking, and then, about an hour in, it gets reaaaaaaaaal sloooooooow. i look at my temp files, and you guessed it, even the bits that i shut down without saving, they're ALL SAVED so there's like 2 gigs of pure garbage that it takes me 10 minutes to delete from the hd. no this is not a setting.

here's a shortcut for you, astroid:
delete C://users/astroid/music

that'll get rid of all the pure garbage.

Live is awesome. But sucks that theres no crossfade. Also sucks that the zoom in/out make me feel like I'm playing some sort of videogame where I don't have good enough mouse skills to control the camera movement. Why am I staring at this wall and how do I turn myself around ?!?!

Its like I'm playing Elder Scrolls IV: ObLIVEon
