It's official. My vehicle, which has been known by myself and friends as the 'Z-Bus', is now recognizeably christened with its new 'ZEE BUS' tag. Joy abound.
Other than that, I've been doing some more thinking on this 'potential' for my music. See, I've already stated that I don't want to do live shows. That right there virtually kills my odds of being a signed, independent artist. Being a songwriter isn't enough without exposure, so if I wanted to suppliment my income with my hobby, how would I go about it.
You're free to make any suggestions, though I have a couple ideas in mind. And here I shall list them...
1) Pornography. Yes, those videos we so subtley sneak in between our comedies and murder mysteries at movie rentals do have music. And, if I do say so myself, I could likely make a masterful porn groove. I'd even fix the tempo and syncopation to accompany the action. Make the entire experience all the more orgasmic, y'know?
2) Business/Personal Projects. I've actually seen many powerpoint and stand-and-speak presentations include music. Usually it's just an ambience to lighten everyone's mood before the presentation begins. I could always get a website and cater to that market. Not to mention I've known people with video hobbies, making documentaries and whatnot. Custom background music with a one-time fee versus gaining rights to use a pre-existing song, possibly dishing some royalties... I dunno, I like to think my music's special.
And finally (and most hesitantly)...
3) Rap/Hip-Hop Beats. Yick. But I can't deny the possibility of success if I took that route seriously. Even these big-time rappers have such corny instrumentation backing them, often making terrible use of clap samples. I know the focus is on vocals and the beat shouldn't be too congested, but some snappier production could really make the difference. And I know, deep down in my soul, that I could out-beat 98% of these performers today. All except Saul Williams. He has my respect.
Overall, I think #1 is my preferred plan of action.

One thing a lot of people fail to realize is that when a person dislikes something, it often seems very simple to them. Yet, if you actually tried out making good hip-hop beats and getting them out there, I promise you, you will most likely put out utter crap because you have no enthusiasm for it. Second. You claim you don't want to do anything with music that you don't want to, I.E you don't want to play out live. Yet you want to make money from it in ways that you find marginally acceptable. Your art/work/words etc, will show what potential you have. Don't go around claiming that you can do something so much better than other people. Just do it. And especially don't do it if you dislike it, especially when it comes to artwork. Maybe if you'd get that out of your head and just pay attention to your own music by itself, you might actually find yourself wanting to go out and play it live to share with people. Even without monetary compensation. though i think id be more likely to play some sort of show than ever get anywhere licensing... it seems to be the ultimate dream of all bedroom electronic producers. "the car commercial" but u know, it seems the car commercial ppl usually choose some signed artist that does shows... there must be room for some to fill this niche, but its so crowded. maybe we all need to start pulling publicity stunts or something. or start iwanttosellout.com. whats wrong with playing live? maybe you will like it. i go through love hate with it but when you do perform and people like

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the people that listen to that stuff like corny music? Ha. Now, in regards to #3, not only did I say in the blog itself that it was my hesitant idea, but in fact I openly discarded it (for a third time, I might add) in the comments. I only believe/know I could do better because I and a couple rapper friends (I met via ToolArmy, oddly enough) saw the outcomes when I actually did a few beats. I only dislike the Hip-Hop community because of its narcissism and lack of thought-provoking lyrics. Those two friends, also 'bedroom producers', did something I liked. And I provided for them. We even liked the outcomes. In fact, I think I'll rummage and see if there's anything on this computer from then. Anyways, this explains my respect for Saul Williams, if no one else in the genre.
And my problem with shows is, well, I'm not a performer. Tried it with a brother a couple times (granted it was accoustic rock and not electronica), not really my pickin's. Which is weird, I know. Mayhap under different circumstances and with support. I guess the real problem is I'm not really much of a musician, just an engineer. Which raises the possibility of being a stage engineer, at least. It's all possible, I realize, I'm just not ready for it. Nor funded, nor confident enough. Mayhap if/when I find additions to the project. I'm starting to like the idea of a drummer. Provided s/he would let me mash it all to shit for the good of electronics. And the car thing is really an inside joke with a couple friends. Since I hate common "hey" greetings, I rather pop up with "d00d, get in the Z-Bus!" And now it is so. But watch, somewhere down the road it'll inadvertantly turn into a marketing thing... Oh, and once I can get ahold of my cousin's fiance, I'll have her take a picture with her cameraphone and e-mail it to me. I should have a picture up this evening. Until then, I know, "stfu."
Yes, but here is the thing about the internet (and writing in general). When you completely disregard something as soon as you write it, then you remove it. Second, you're two rapper friends? How does that mean anything to anyone else? When you say you don't think that all of hip-hop which many consider to be completely separate from Rap music, because of people thinking like yourself, you're disregarding an extremely large portion of the music community which you probably haven't even listened to. It'd be like me saying that I don't like Rock music because they have don't have good lyrics, or I don't like opera because they don't have good lyrics. What about Talib Kwali, Black Starr, Kool Keith, Cee-lo, MF Doom, One Self, Outkast, etc etc. Aesop Rock, and list could go on. And then you also disregard an entire genre of hip-hop which is solely just beat music, do you think you can easily make better beats than Madlib? Jay Dee? DJ Krush? Nightmares on Wax? Prefuse 73? etc.
Now, I never said easily, especially not with some of those names I recognize.
