Last week i bought fiddle for £49.
bargain.

Ive been thinking about learning to play for a while now.
I think its one of the most emotive of all instruments.

Its interesting playing something with a bow, you have to think about attacking the notes in a different way. Im used to plucking things.

Anyway, its harder than it looks.

heres a couple of clips of my progress after 7 days.

Good luck! Bowing is a lifelong challenge, as I'm finding out.
oh i cant wait to listen to the mp3s - if there's something i like in there would u mind if i sampled it?
I'm doing the same! I got one about 3 months ago and I still dont know what I'm doing and my neighbours hate me!
I would recommend at least a couple of lessons from a good teacher. It really helps, especially with bowing.
yes, I played violin. to play a stringed instrument properly, find a good passionate teacher.

Guidance is super helpful with these things.
WICKED!!!
ive been practicing the bodhran recently....which is also harder than it looks!!
we should have a folky jam at the next STFU.
wow, after seven days of playing that is really good. Keep it up!
noshit.. 7days its amazing

I feel the same way, very emotive. String/bow instruments and some reed (i.e. accordion, harmonium etc.) may be the only ones you can vary the volume with your body motion (not counting lung motion)... are they?
Makes for some great emotion.
Can't wait for the fiddle psychadelica.
fiddles are sexier than ukuleles
its tuned the same way as i tune my banjo except an octave higher.
so its not like im learning something TOTALLY different.

evermzah: yeah feel free to sample this. haha
i am so jealous of your banjo fiddle skills. gonna have to catch up. tried playing a cello the other day. it was hard but you get a big grin on when you get something going.
I know someone who bought one for about that much second hand. Turns out the bow was worth about £800!!

Dennis Bovell's Dub band have a great electric violin player.
