Rotary is a reference to just 1996 techno and other things going on.
As for the Ae and Damon Wild connection.. the rest of the Live PA was very clanky rusty submarine for hell .. with a beat. I was really into Ae at the time but felt it lacked something and was a bit pretentious. That night really changed my outlook on electronic music on how you can have a very personal musical vision and make it something that everyone can enjoy.
And remember that "909 techno" had to be started by someone so that you can say that. Those NY guys did it right.

not knocking the 909 techno aspect of things . i'm just super super picky when it comes to techno (though i like a lot of it and hold it in high regard) and find that most of it has no staying power for me. Ae is timeless in my eyes.. ears. just mho. i'm an Ae junky though.

It's hard to go back to techno because it's like listening to an un-amped guitar. A best kicks were just a good pulse .. the hardness comes alive with big speakers and then when that hits the air. On record .. it's just a click. Where as the really hard over-processed kicks (bad hardhouse).. came off as sorta forced/weak.
an old mix recorded to tape is a better way to go back... actually ... I think I might rip an old tape to CD tonight (Acetate "16 to the sky") .. wanna copy? Old 96 style Jeff Mills/eary swedish. Bascially old "sidechain" techno. Where the kick comes out, all the synth lines come alive .. then the kick comes back and smashes it back into the loop... my guilty pleasure.

colin : yeah, I was gonna wondering about that too. it used to be at afxlive.watmm.com ... I remember a month or two ago some mention that they were going to move them somewhere, but I haven't heard a peep about it since. I hope they do, there were some real treasures in there.
one of the most fun things about Autechre and their albums is that there's a fairly distinct line of progress from one album to a next, which sometimes has some overlap with the Gescom material (especially with the first EP, and a little later with Key Nell). sometimes there's a jump, though, like from Tri Repetae to Chiastic Slide. those live sets give a lot more clues towards filling in those gaps.
