About me
Hey, I'm Joey. I act on stage and in front of the camera. Sometimes I act like a web and graphic designer. I play guitar and write music as mixedtape. I like bloops, doops, bleeps and sweeps. Chickas, oh yeahs and uh huhs are used sparingly but in good taste.

Electronic Music other: New Website, Finally!
Store Written June 13 2007
Hi folks!

I don't wanna spam too much but I thought I'd let those that are interested take a look at my new freelance web and graphic design business site. NotionStudios.com

I've been working really hard on some exciting projects while trying to redesign all of my sites and have finally finished this one. It's been a long time in the works! I put up a selection of my most recent work and will update frequently.

Also, I know that there are a lot of em'ers here who are in need of a website for themselves...to you guys I say stay tuned. I hope to offer up something exciting very, very soon, I'm really excited about this project I've been silently working on! But till then, I hope you enjoy my new site, gotta be a tease for now. ;)

mmm.. nice lookin' site.
real nice mang!
make me one
noice
teh slick!

you're missing a 'be' in the text at link
"not just a site that is given a quick glance by a potential client, only to never _be_ seen again."
nice looking site and nice looking portfolio. i'm jealous. you got that whole clean and tidy 2.0 design thing down. nice work!

i'm currently knocking the rust off my css and then it's on to learning php this summer. aarggh, my brian hurts! i'm just a moran!
bbwax: if you didn't start yet you might want to consider learning ruby (on rails) rather than php. Or python (and django) which i hear is also very good. I used to code in php, using RoR is much more satisfying experience.
Joey, man it looks great! As you know I really love the colors and the very simple and balanced composition. My one critique is that I think the gray bar which serves as the menu bar could be thinner. That way more data from below would show. But, seriously, it's great work.
thanks, cbit, i'll check those out. i hear these words and acronyms all the time but have been too busy to actually check them out. well, "busy" is maybe the wrong word. farting around on em411 and slicing up breaks is closer to the truth.
i wish the fonts were bigger... cuz i cant see them from here.
sweet, thanks guys! I appreciate the kind words and thoughts.

cbit - what typo? ;) good catch. that was a 3am blog entry.

bbwax - yes RoR is really great and if you do want to spend the time to learn something, I'd definitely go that over php. though it's not as hot of a "buzz word" in the client world as it is in the dev world...it will be.

jdg - so, 15% increase on all fonts? come on old man, i know you're blind.
looks great!

a couple of comments:
- too many font styles and sizes. you have serif and sans-serifs and they seem arbitrary rather than intentional.
- the upper-right corner of your "box" div appears to have a curved edge. it's the only curve on the site and seems out of place.

that's it!
looks super nice.
comments:
i agree about the fonts

your footer is HUGE, at least its consistantly huge from page to page though

you are mixing cases a lot. like notion is all lower-case i can feel that i design logos in all lower a lot myself. but then your name probably should be "properly" cased as you seem to have done that for other proper-nouns like Maroon 5

much like my reply here you are mixing punctuation as well.
like you go from sentences with no periods "joey trimmer, the sole-proprietor of notion, is a web, graphic and print designer and front-end developer based in seattle" all those commas no period. which i am totally ok with, but then it seems out of place compared to "put your website in the right hands." which does have a period and clearly isn't a sentence (well i mean it is, but you seem to be making it not by not capitalizing the first word).

its like the McDonald's campaign:
i'm loving it. - that bothers me, cap the I or drop the period.

when i design stuff i'll try not to have periods anytime i can avoid it. it just seems inconsistant the way it is is all.

oops i just went to your work page and see you used a period in the text that replaced the joey trimmer text, so maybe it was just a typo, my bad.
thanks dudes! yeah I agree with the fonts too, thought I could get a way with it. thing is, using the standard html sans-serif fonts just didn't seem to work in the blue box.

and, ejector, definitely appreciate those grammatical jumbles, i'll be pouring over my site over the next few days to fix those things. that's probably my biggest weakness. i could never be a copy editor...EVER. (period). lol
oh and re: the footer. though it is big...i think it stands out more because most pages don't have a ton of content filling it up yet. the homepage will get a few additions to it when I have time and once I add more blog entries and portfolio entries that'll start to push it down more. but thanks for the critiques guys.
