--> Hi all - this is Josh, some of you might know/have met me. Anyways, I've a favor I'd like to ask of you...

Here's the deal - myself and Lucas (cache) are organizing a show on Aug 4th (a saturday) for the Crème Organization label's US tour. If you are unfamiliar with Crème- (imho) they are one of the more excellent of the many excellent electro labels out of the netherlands right now. Here's the profile.

The west coast portion of the tour consists of DJ TLR, the Crème label boss, and Cosmic Force, who will be doing a live PA. Here are some more links for you to check out-

I am way WAY into this shit and completely stoked to have these guys out. I'm on their forum and they had posted that they were looking for more west coast dates and specifically mentioned that they wanted to come to Portland, but needed a hook-up. So I told them ok, consider it done - I'll work it out. I've got it confirmed and everything - they're on their way. We haven't contacted any local artists yet to open, we figure we should find a venue first - - - which is where we've run into a bit of a snag. Lucas and I have e-mailed a couple venues and have gotten no responses, positive or negative, so far.

Sooooo, if any of you have any ideas of where we could have this, and better yet, if any of you have connects there, please please please help us out! TLR is quite an excellent dj with a fine selection of electro/acid/disco/etc, and from what I hear/read, Cosmic Force's live pa show is one of the best out there, plus there is no shortage of excellent performers and dj's here in town. Provided it comes together properly, this has the potential to be an excellent night of uncompromising, hard-assed electro awesomeness.

So, yeah - any advice, ideas, help, etc would be greatly appreciated!

Rotture? Apotheke? Holocene?

Also, with some of the booking people you have to be a pain and leave multiple messages/go to the club.

as a booking person, i usually try to get back to most people, but i'd say if you aren't hearing back it's because they aren't interested. emailing more than once will help, but if you haven't heard, i wouldn't get my hopes up. i've only played rock-oriented clubs in portland, but i really liked the doug fir lounge.

i'd look into, pi-rem and rotture. both of those venues have pretty good sound and i think will be more approachable/open.

Yes, Pi-Rem & Rotture/Branx. Maybe even try Pala. They have a nice stage/dj booth setup.

in my experience it's always best to go down to the venue. even take a cd of the type of stuff yr gonna put on. have a preliminary flier design. loads of info. it's quite easy to pretend to be a shrewd business person. Then when the time comes it fucks up and noone turns up, it's too late.

Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah, I suppose we're going to have be a bit more of a pain in the ass to secure a venue. I've never organized an event before, so this is sort of an experiment on my part. I just really want these guys to come to town.

Rotture is cool and the more I think about it, it may be the most appropriate on account of it's dark and they have reasonably cheap beer. That's the only thing with Pi-rem - it's an expensive place to hang out. I've emailed the guy from rotture, but I haven't gotten a response. I'll maybe have to go down there on monday for the live pa night. Holocene would be cool, but I would think it might be harder to get on a Saturday? Funny thing is, I think the booking guy for holocene was at the show the last time the Crème people came through town about 4 years ago at the blackbird. I think david/solenoid put that one on. Someday lounge might be good too, huh? I know they have live streaming for show, which I think would be cool. I didn't see any sort of contact info on their website, but I think lucas might have an email address or somthing, so he was going to try to get a hold of them. Pala would be a weird one - I hadn't thought of that - the 'fashion' bar meets global darkness - hmmmmm....

oh btw - it seems something has happened to the smack dynamik/global darkness website where the tlr mixes are linked to. It's been under attack lately, it seems they've been hit with the big one. Sooo, yeah - hopefully they get it worked out soon.

What the...?!!!

I was promoter for them last time they came in 2003!... I'm suprised TLR or Will (is Will B from Brooklyn driving them across country again?) didn't email me!
I ended up hooking them with some people in Seattle and SF just to get the ball rolling for those guys coming to this coast. IT TOTALLY ROCKED. It was just such a huge pumping sci-fi-synth disco dance party --what a blast! It was one of the best nights I've ever gone to, and not just because I booked/promoted it.

I'll help out with this...let's do Holocene, I think Scott could be down with booking this! How soon is this...we gotta move fast to book a space, at least 2 mo advance notice is nec to promote it right.

Check out this from 2003:

I'd also made a special mix of creme/etc label stuff for the press pack... keep in mind this is *before* electroclash had really carried over into an interest in italo and electro-disco... Here is Julianne finding the mix cdr after moving to NYC (scroll down to Living on Dreams):

Let's do it! I lost a big chunk of money before, but I think that people in pdx are more looking for this sound now than back in 2003... it was too early for our backwoods town.

Yeah - that party was pretty much my introduction to all this dutch electro nonsense! I was going to try to catch you at GK one of these thursdays, but then I realized it was last thursday - ha! They're coming on Aug 4th, a Saturday. I hooked this up through the forum. I asked if they were doing the NW, and TLR specifically mentioned wanting to do Portland, so apparently he like it. I'm not sure who's driving. Legowelt and Orgue Electronic are playing the rest of the country, but by the time the tour gets out here it's just Cosmic Force and TLR, which is still great. I'm not sure, but I don't think Cosmic Force has played the US outside of DEMF.

Yeah - Lucas and I have been harrassing the Holocene about this, hehehe.. We're thinking about Rotture too.

Anyways, I sent you a mail.

you can't go wrong with an outdoor party.

Haha, we were actually joking about talking GK into having a beer garden out in front - that's streets always blocked off for construction anyways
