According to prepal it was $400 in 1982. If they're going to be going for thousands of dollars now, it might make sense for Roland to put them back into production!

The fact is that the world standing of the dollar is making these prices seem really huge in Dollars, but they are relatively low prices in Euros, pounds, or Yen.
Collectors from other countries are using the current week dollar to buy the toys they always wanted.

I can honestly say as a 303 owner that $2300 is over twice what it's worth, even on ebutt. And it's evident that alot of people are perfectly happy with gear inspired by it.
Blame it on the 'bay and that auction fever it creates. What do you bet the winning bidder will do a deadbeat and try to back out or just not respond to the auction.

But if they put them back into production no one would pay thousands of dollars for one. Catch-22...

I played before Rob Acid/Babicz last weekend, he's been relatively well known for making acid techno for the last 10-15 years or so.
What was he using? two laptops, one of them running Audio Realism's bassline. It probably sounded more '303' than my x0xb0x. Why would you spend $2300 or 3000 for a broken filter?

By the way, the absurdity of the auction is now featured on Music Thing, with the title "The world has finally gone mad":

There are always going to be crazy auctions out there. Personally, I hope ebay is forced to stop using their buy in now button, because its going to help stop eBay from artificially inflating prices on equipment.

BTW i had a TB-303 for about 2 years and used it everyday along with the 606 i had.
I paid $60 for the 303 and $25 for the 606 in 1993.
