--> Well. . I'm about to be kicked out of home. . its a matter of about . . a month I guess.

I'lll spare you of the details. . basically - leaving university, not living up to my parents expectations, so I will be booted and stamped with a big red "F" for the rest of my life by them, even though its not the life I want.

Now the real problem I have is this. . . I don't own a computer. . and the laptop my dad was gonna buy me for my 21st. . well he won't buy it for me if I'm not at uni anymore..

So what I need to know is what you lot think is the most inexpensive option for writing music? I dont have farkall money. . I have to buy a car to get to my job so I can actually afford to live out cos I don't own one.

At the moment I'm trying to get my nintendo DS working as a sequencer but I'm having trouble, and I own a Novation Nova - but I might have to end up selling this to fund the car

OR i might get lucky and get a job near wherever I move out to..or within cycling distance.

If I can get the DS working as a sequencer I'll still need some second hand gear. . a synth definitely. . . a sampler maybe - but it will be a pain in the ass having to borrow a mates computer to copy/edit the samples over.

Perhaps an old cheap laptop?

What do you all think? What kind of synth can I get for signigicantly less than the cost of my Nova? A laptop that cheap would probably not be able to cope with even about 2 VST instances I guess so I'm not sure if thats a viable option?

i didn't quite enjoy this blog, but just showing my support. you should try to blag some old computers and get fruity loops. Or some freeware stuff like skale tracker. You'll be surprised that computers nowadays are a lot more powerful and cheaper than before.

but you should probably focus elsewhere instead.
Recent blogs: Japan tokyo, kyoto, hokkaido

i wrecked my car recently.

bought a palm pilot and bhaji's loops for the bus. works great for less then 120$ all together (including the palm zire72 i bought off ebay). you get sample editing, a kickass piano roll, the ability to export samples, songs, and midi. definitely worth checking out if in a pinch. it doesn't pack the heat of a computer, but it's a very very well made program.

i survived 7 years with working jobs, riding a bike and spending on computer stuffs.
cars do cost too much to maintain, though rural living requires at least one....
good luck. keep us posted. and good luck!

thanks guys! Yeah car is gonna be avoided at all costs...

Can This setup send MIDI via some sort of cable (midi->UBS cable)?

I'd be keen if it coiuld, but im not really down with 'enclosed' systems

I've decided I'm gonna go with something TOTALLY different to all that has been mentioned above.

It's a secret though so you'll never know! :p
