So I'm moving from Victoria, BC. I'm not a Canadian, but hopefully before I leave I'll have my landed immigrant card. I'm moving in August, and I'm curious, where should I move to? I'm from San Antonio, TX. I was primarily born and raised there. I've lived in New Mexico a bit, and I like it there...TX, while I like because of nostalgic purposes and friends I have there, I don't really like the place as a whole.
I was thinking of San Antonio for sure mainly because of all the friends I have there, but a majority don't inspire me creative wise, but a couple would probably like to collab with me on some projects. Though I decided to think of other places when I was chatting with celibacyclub. He recommended Portland, but I asked about rent and wasn't so sure. So here I am, what are some relatively cheap places to live and a number of people in the em scene to keep me company? I'll have a few thousand in the bank hopefully before I move so that'll help me get on my feet etc.
So where in the US should I move?

I wouldn't move to Boston.

zfigz, you'd have a group of em411 friends if you moved here -- and it's a good place for electronic musicians. I've lived here 10 years but only started realizing how big the electronic music scene is over the last two... and kicking myself for not trying harder to find it earlier.

oh and I kinda wanna go back to the states because I wanna get active in some political way besides just voting...I've been feeling guilty as I've watched my country go down the poop shoot since I moved here (fall of 2002.)

I live in Portland, own a house, and am looking for someone to rent one of the rooms. If you decide on Portland, you can pm me. I'd say the cheapest I've lived in Portland was $180 a month, but that was in a house with a serious rodent infestation, 5 people in a 3 bedroom house; that house also burned down while I was living there, but that's another story. The most expensive was an apartment by myself, $550, utilities (cable tv, internet) included. I'm probably going to ask $350+$35 utilities at my house.

Move in with Jim! Portland is fresh. The more hippies you kill, the better. Also, you'd have a fat friends network (no jdg jokes please, he doesn't live here) with empdx.com.

oh yeah rent, well it's been a few years since I rented but I think you can still live pretty well on a few hundred a month. Most I ever paid was 600, I think, and it was a SWEET apt (section 8 / poor people housing, swank new building).

livin' in america
i feel good - huh!
move to tokyo.
1. find out what real sushi tastes like
2. enjoy the luxury of being media-free coz you can't read the advertising or understand the TV
3. pay about $650 a month to live in a shoebox
4. find a vast circle of other musicians and spotty geeks via link
5. bring your cat with you, take him/her for walks in Yoyogi park on a sunday and be accosted by thousands of girls in hotpants (hotpants are big in tokyo right now) cooing "kawaii!" and asking for your telephone number.
actaully zfigz, can you just send me the cat?
