So I'm moving from Victoria, BC. I'm not a Canadian, but hopefully before I leave I'll have my landed immigrant card. I'm moving in August, and I'm curious, where should I move to? I'm from San Antonio, TX. I was primarily born and raised there. I've lived in New Mexico a bit, and I like it there...TX, while I like because of nostalgic purposes and friends I have there, I don't really like the place as a whole.
I was thinking of San Antonio for sure mainly because of all the friends I have there, but a majority don't inspire me creative wise, but a couple would probably like to collab with me on some projects. Though I decided to think of other places when I was chatting with celibacyclub. He recommended Portland, but I asked about rent and wasn't so sure. So here I am, what are some relatively cheap places to live and a number of people in the em scene to keep me company? I'll have a few thousand in the bank hopefully before I move so that'll help me get on my feet etc.
So where in the US should I move?

milwaukee wisconsin. crouton music is here, it's the birthplace of breakcore, there's a decent electronic music scene (casino vs japan works at a local record shop) tho it's largely indie rock, all those kids love laptoppers so you can make an impact. also, i pay $243 a month for the upstairs of a duplex in a nice part of town (with 2 roommates) so it's cheep as hell. and chicago is just a $2 megabus ride away.

okay wikipedia doesn't quite back me up on the breakcore thing, but milwaukee is the first on the list for places it spawned: link

I've been thinking seriously about Austin, TX because I've got a couple of friends in Austin and a handful in San Antonio...still deciding though.

if you want to come back to texas move to austin.
I lived there and go there often (from Houston) to play shows.
AMODA (austin museum of digital art) is there.
Also a really good mid-size venue (like the parish) town for electronic acts coming through.
(i.e. you could open up for them if you talk to the right people)
it's getting a little expensive--and the south side is crawling with hippies--and new scenesters in the SOCO (s. congress st. district) yuk.
Portland sounds like the best bang for the buck--I think finding a job would seem a little harder if you are uneducated/not trade specialized etc.
I've always fancied the pacific NW.
Seems like alot of emers are there--you'd have a culture support group right away.
Otherwise--I'd say make the move to somewhere beautiful and inspiring. Regardless of scene, friends, girlfriends, money.
You might end up happy.
good luck!
