Here is a link to a very illuminating article about one of my all time favorite producers - Luke Vibert. It just goes to show that you don't have to be a gear fiend to be a kick ass producer.

and have good taste in sampling.. Kerrier District is about 80% samples.. Get some Salsoul records ... I can't stress this enough.

oh, and btw, i used to "really" like vibert's stuff (still do), but a lot of it is just breakbeats with solid compression and found melodic samples slapped together...it is very fun to listen to.

I like it, but to pick it apart in a classical musical sense, it lacks melody and song dynamics. I really do think it posesses dynamics that other musicians/producers don't. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOr, he has good dance, sound, and coolness.
I don't know reason at all. But I'm sure its not magic.
