--> Hello emers all...

Just an update on my studio and some picts!

I have moved back to the country. Working outside my home did NOT work for me at all. In fact, my creativity for the last four months came to a complete halt. It's horrible to me how easily I take an excuse not to work, and the city offers many colorful ones.

So I found an old house in Marlboro, NY. It's really really pretty. Reminds me of Umbria, actually; it's at the top of a group of hills sloping gracefully into a valley of apple orchards. No kidding, this place looks like some kind of early American paradise!

The only thing a bit nuts is that the electricity in the upstairs (the part I want to use for my studio) is ungrounded. I had an electrician come in and try to find the problem. He couldn't, so he just added a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter to the circuit that covers this whole top floor. So at least it will be safe!

There are two smallish rooms with a short hall (and bathroom) between them. They both have oddly shaped ceilings. Jdg said it was a very good shape for recording and sound, so frankly that was the deciding factor for me! (Thank you Jdg!) I am using one room for monitoring, and the other for recording.

The rooms have SUCH a good vibe. They are very bright and I feel really creative in them already.

Tons more shots taken at late dusk here: link

Ooh, nice wooden floors.

Hopefully this will be much better than that brooklyn horror!

beautiful - Id only seen the shots you took from the outside but the vibe I got from them was good - better than that rancid flock wallpapered claustrophobic box you had to use the other month!!

Now - get on with some more tunage!!

yeah this place looks more 'you'. good luck with this one!!!
looks gorgeous.

that place looks great. windows that see fields, sunshine. amazing.

dude, that looks fucking awesome. so inspirational too. beautiful home fraydoh!

wow. that's awesome. so happy for you to be out of the drama of your last place in the city. this new place is definitely more you. enjoy.

Yeah the first pic makes me think "Aaahhhhh...much better".

That chair is lovely.

Looks super nice. I would love to have a clean and uncluttered studio area like that!
wtf. this is absolutely beautiful. i envy you beyond compare.
this place goes really way with your stuff, i'm quite sure this will a birthplace for tons of great new recordings.

and you are right it looks quite a bit umbria-like.

i hear there are ghosts?

I really like the light in the room. My studio is so damn dark...
The ceiling is crazy cool too!
Excellent find.

thanks so much, gents.

Well, this place so far has had it's moments of drama... the landlords tried to get me to sign a second lease (!!!) that basically took all the parts that protect the tenant out! It was insane! I just said, look, send me the one I signed and I will move in as expected. I will never sign this new lease, and am horrified by the fact that you have omitted the parts that protect the tenant. If you would like to send me back my full deposit I will walk away from the deal.

They wrote back apologizing for the misunderstanding and sent me my signed lease instantly. Of course, it's an old house, so dealing with the electricity is somewhat of a challenge too, but it does indeed feel much cleaner and much more comfortable. I'm sighing a BIG sigh of relief!

hahah, yeah, there are whistling ghosts! The first day I was here I was whistling and suddenly I heard my whistle responded to by nearly an identical one! It startled me at first. I went looking through the house and found nothing. But it was probably either the pipes or a gap under the front door encountering the gusty winds (that are pretty much full time around here.)

or a playful ghost!

wow, very beautiful! so, you have to whole house for yourself?
i love shaped ceilings. very cosy.
