Hello emers all...
Just an update on my studio and some picts!
I have moved back to the country. Working outside my home did NOT work for me at all. In fact, my creativity for the last four months came to a complete halt. It's horrible to me how easily I take an excuse not to work, and the city offers many colorful ones.
So I found an old house in Marlboro, NY. It's really really pretty. Reminds me of Umbria, actually; it's at the top of a group of hills sloping gracefully into a valley of apple orchards. No kidding, this place looks like some kind of early American paradise!
The only thing a bit nuts is that the electricity in the upstairs (the part I want to use for my studio) is ungrounded. I had an electrician come in and try to find the problem. He couldn't, so he just added a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter to the circuit that covers this whole top floor. So at least it will be safe!
There are two smallish rooms with a short hall (and bathroom) between them. They both have oddly shaped ceilings. Jdg said it was a very good shape for recording and sound, so frankly that was the deciding factor for me! (Thank you Jdg!) I am using one room for monitoring, and the other for recording.
The rooms have SUCH a good vibe. They are very bright and I feel really creative in them already.
Tons more shots taken at late dusk here: link

yes, I have the whole house to myself. It's quite small... just a medium-large room downstairs for my bedroom, the two small ones upstairs for the studio. It has a largish livingroom and diningroom. I'm going to put a bed in the diningroom so I can have friends up.

I have a room with a similarly shaped ceiling...it is magic for recording, sounds better than any of my friends' bedroom studio imo.

wow Fredo, this place looks great. congratulations and here's to you having a lot of fun and creativity at the new place. totally understand you gravitating towards life on the country - despite part of me still yearning for some big city action by now I'm certain I want to live in the country as much as possbile.

Great to have that confirmed about the shape!
Yes, the city has a lot of charm, but all in all I think life is much healthier in the country.

fancy marrying a cornish boy fredo? if so, i'll get my stuff packed and get a flight booked
really nice looking place sir! my next place is gonna be along those lines, for sure. my current studio is pretty nice but soon i will be staying at my girlfriend's house. nice on one level but not so good for making tunes. maybe i'll just have to get my head down and learn to play guitar / accordion / kazoo better...

the house doesnt look small.
in fact, it looks airy, with all the light beaming in.
it must be a dream to wake up in this setting.
you must feel like singing, just breathing in the healthy air and listening to the birds...
cities are for visiting. :-)
all the best.
wish you happiness and many great new songs.

thanks a lot, sAMsKi and bb01. speaking of the birds... they are quite loud here, but somehow that doesn't trouble me as much as machine noises or footsteps. In fact, there's a recording of some string quartets and at the very end of a quiet movement you quite clearly hear some birds, and it always makes me feel so happy to hear it. Birds say light and balanced energy. Maybe I will try to get some in my recordings!
The thing is, I think I will still have some sound issues. Sound is just the toughest thing to fight no matter where you are I'm finding...
