Hello emers all...
Just an update on my studio and some picts!
I have moved back to the country. Working outside my home did NOT work for me at all. In fact, my creativity for the last four months came to a complete halt. It's horrible to me how easily I take an excuse not to work, and the city offers many colorful ones.
So I found an old house in Marlboro, NY. It's really really pretty. Reminds me of Umbria, actually; it's at the top of a group of hills sloping gracefully into a valley of apple orchards. No kidding, this place looks like some kind of early American paradise!
The only thing a bit nuts is that the electricity in the upstairs (the part I want to use for my studio) is ungrounded. I had an electrician come in and try to find the problem. He couldn't, so he just added a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter to the circuit that covers this whole top floor. So at least it will be safe!
There are two smallish rooms with a short hall (and bathroom) between them. They both have oddly shaped ceilings. Jdg said it was a very good shape for recording and sound, so frankly that was the deciding factor for me! (Thank you Jdg!) I am using one room for monitoring, and the other for recording.
The rooms have SUCH a good vibe. They are very bright and I feel really creative in them already.
Tons more shots taken at late dusk here: link

well, everybody's said everything already, but that place reminds me when I was traveling through the great plains after I left l.a. on my way back to the east coast, and i just wanted to stop find a house, and move in. i would have, too, if i'd been able to afford it. it was so gorgeous and relieving compared to l.a. best wishes in your new place, fredo! looking at your new place, i feel inspired to make music right where i'm at.

yay! So glad you are all excited for me. Makes me feel warm inside... and a bit nervous too, in all honesty. It's been a long while since I wrote new material... I have been kept quite busy with a whole lot of bullshit. I'm going to have to ease myself back into the habit.
Anyway, wo, that is a small world, clarkq. Marlboro is dinky!
Soundhack... I totally hear you on the expensive purchase quandry... actually, that's why I'm renting this house... In January my label is going to release my album, so I'll have an idea of how much money I'll have to invest in a home. I have a strong feeling it's going to be really small, but it would be really stupid for me to jump in before being certain.. so I'm living here for a year, and hopefully around February or March I'll start looking for a place to buy for myself. The owners said they would sell me this one, but I'm not sure in the long-run it's big enough. In the meantime, maaannnn, it is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!!!!!
Claudia... it's actually not woods... it's orchards! Which is really nice. I mean, imagine multiple fields of apple orchards just to one side of your house... I kind of feel like I'm dreaming a little.

cloudburst... I am setting up some focal solos which I am demoing and picked up this afternoon! Turns out they call for different cables than I have so it's going to have to wait!
Re: Ikea table
UGH! I had closed the legs down when moving. Upon arrival I tried to pull all the legs back out and one is jammed. Cook books do come in handy after all. ;) Also, the couch I bought from Ikea for use at the studio, which ended up having very very little use, promptly cracked under my ass as soon as I sat on it! Hooray again for cookbooks.
Ikea is junk. Sorry folks.

hahahah! Yeah, Christmas lights sound great! Of course, I don't want to add a single extra electronic feed... The whole top floor is running off a 15 amp circuit and I have yet to install my air-conditioner!
