so it seems the previous controversy over stealing a demoscene artists work and using it uncredited in a nelly furtado album track hasnt put timbaland off using chiptunes in his work.
the new timband-produced fifty cent single 'ayo technology' (lol) prominently features the sound of tims sidstation playing arpeggaited chords as the main body of the tune. it'll be interesting to find out what the chiptunes scene think of this...
at least (i think) he's not stealing this time, tho the song is bloody awful. at least he used a good chiptune the last time.
here's a link to the new 50 cent/timbaland tune : link
a few days ago i heard a promo of the new percee p song (ft. diamond d and produced by madlib) and it happened to have a sampled NES beat to it too.
link to the new percee p/madlib track : link
could this spark a new trend of chiptune sampling hiphop for the next few months? i certainly hope not!

"It makes me laugh. The part I don't understand, the dude is trying to act like I went to his house and took it from his computer. I don't know him from a can of paint. I'm 15 years deep. That's how you attack a king? You attack moi? Come on, man. You got to come correct. You the laughing stock. People are like, 'You can't be serious.'"
what a douchebag wanker!

I think Beck said it best with that comment about hip hop and the reason why it is like it is today, because they can't sample anything anymore..
so it's just a bunch of gangster wankers with microkorgs and 808 samples

to each her or his own. nobody even really talked about timbaland on this board until the chiptune incident. now, many are pissed off because they are treating music like property. that's what's really fucked up. like somebody owns music. folks respond to authority on a daily basis, but when a black man defends his position it's a different thing. folks in the art world are always, and i mean always, floating their credentials for everybody to see, demanding they be respected for what they have done. when timbaland does it, people freak out. he's the king at what HE does. it doesn't necessarily apply to you or what you do! folks have a problem, for real. people love brian eno. brian eno toots his own horn all the damn time. so does thomas dolby. but their styles of doing it are different. you know, eno is always spouting his philosophy from the stuffy halls of academia somewhere. it always seems to be in a stuffy and elitist setting. and thomas dolby has always thought that he was hot shit. well, in my opinion, they are both incredible artitsts, and i don't blame them for recognizing their own talents. i don't blame timbaland either. none of what those three people say has anything to do with me, so i don't take offense.
some folks are so prejudiced, it seems fucking surreal sometimes. like warhol didn't steal shit to make art and to make money. the entire art world is filled with plagiarists! anyway, folks are only going to see what they can see.
and beck? beck?! please, beck is one of the most borrowing and stealing and plagiarizing musical artists active today. a lot of his music from odelay to midnight vultures is nothing but prince and george clinton made to suit himself. nothing is wrong with that, but much of his music, if not all of it, comes from a place other than from himself. but it's okay because he's an artist. AND THAT'S WHAT ARTISTS FUCKING DO! they borrow and steal shit. but many so-called artists seem like they want to be lawyers rather than artists these days.
what a fucking trip. this "let's slag timbaland" is such a tired subject. never knew folks held so much contempt.
anyway, it still is in my opinion that those two tracks are good, despite the copyright fiasco and braggadocio.

say whatever you want, but none of you has come up with anything as catchy as "cry me a river". and also i gotta say that if 50 wasn't on that new track i'd probably like it quite a bit.
keep in mind: hating is a waste of the skill. yes, he's a douche. but he's also fucking talented, and he certainly knows how to produce tracks that sound better than 99% of the shit you hear on (ugh) commercial radio. as far as the whole sampling-chiptunes-thing, who really gives a shit? it sounds hot in both examples above. i've used nintendo samples plenty of times, even in releases here on em411, and it's because sometimes that specific texture is exactly what a track needs.
anyway, my only request is that we stop with the whole "screw (insert talented successful artist here)! until they recognize the talents of (insert 'so-underground-that-they've-only-released-one-mp3-EP-on-an-obscure-netlabel-that-you-can't-get-anymore-because-the-server-has-been-down-ever-since-the-label-owner's-mom-cut-his-allowance-but-you-can-still-send-him-an-email-and-if-he-gets-a-chance-he'll-yousendit-or-pando-the-files-to-you-after-class' artist here), i'm not going to even pay attention! there is no justice!" nonsense. please. thanks.

Yea, I agree with Sound Hack. IT doesnt matter that the people on this board dont agree with timbalands and Fifty cents methods, the point is that things that sound good and and new, when released by names that the public knows will sell. Im not a rap fan, but im smart enough to understand and enjoy the music that timbaland and fifty cent put out because it doesnt matter how it was made, or who made it, what matters is the idea behind the music. I mean, sure, the idea behind alot of rap is hedonistic etc, but it doesnt matter. I think that alot of the people who are pissed off at timbaland dont like rap, and thats fine, but that doesnt mean no one should listen too it.
I agree with sound hack, soem of the people on this blog sound very prejudiced. and worst of all, they make unbacked and twisted allogations.
