So my new job is awesome, I go in at 11 and get out at 7. I stay up till 2, 3 or 4am and sleep til 9 or 9:30. I am one of those people who hate to sleep cause it wastes my time, but when I go too long with out at least 4 hours of GOOD sleep, I really start to get weird.
I've been wondering for a while what makes a person weird, I mean like so weird they are scary to you just talking or looking. I hadn't met anyone like this until last year and the dude is literally scary to me. The way his eyes move, the way he talks and drives, everything about the dude is abnormal to me.
Since meeting the guy, I've been very self conscious about myself when I'm so tired I can hardly have a conversation with people. I start thinking they are looking at me the same way I looked at that weird dude.
Today at my new job particularly, one of the ladies in the office who I really enjoy having around cause she's so fun and happy, came to me today and was wanting to sit and joke for a bit, but I was so tired I really couldn't do anything besides get my work done and ended our small conversation briefly with a very awkward , "ha ha, that true."
Does sleep fuck with your life and who you are? Or do people think I'm weird anyway and I just can notice it when I'm tired?

i worked at a festival last week for 20 hours straight, then had 4 hours sleep .
then got up to do more work.
i often do this kind of thing. i think i will die young as a result.
i have calmed down a bit though, used to not sleep much at all.
in the week i try and get 8 hrs in. i can sleep anywhere though, behind
speakers, in piles of cable, at the wheel of a van, in bass bins etc.
lifes too short to be asleep, the parodox being life is too short
if you don't sleep.

I feel the same way when I've not been sleeping enough. Infact for the past 10 years I've not had enough sleep. I have irregular sleeping patterns too where I'll stay in bed at the weekend for lke 12-13 hours which fucks up my pattern for getting enough sleep for work on Monday morning. Thats not good either.
The funny thing is, all my best music is made when I start to get really tired just before I go to bed, so then I stay up later which results in a constant conflict of being creative and tired all the time or feeling good but not doing any decent tunes.
I get weird when I'm tired too and I can get irritable, seriously paranoid and depressed, you should really keep on top of a good sleeping pattern of at least 8 hours a night. I feel like a new person since I've kept a good pattern.

I know what you mean RAdio, I used to make my best music right before bed too, infact I lost a good job cause of it, although I was planning to quit any way because the new boss didn't like me smoking in the warehouse, even tho I was the only one working in it.
I guess now since I lost enough sleep, I usually always feel creative, even tho alot of the work I do never gets done.

HERE I AM AGAIN, uplate. its a good ole 4:30 in marnin.
I lost that job cause I stayed uplate, like 2 hrs before I had to get up I was going to sleep.
BOSS man woulda been waiting for me to come in my usual "Shit I'm late" loading dock entrance, but it was more like 3 hrs late so I called my cool boss to see if I should even bother coming in. Hes just like, No, he fired you man, I told him at least I finished a cool track.

i just finished reading 3 books on sleep. i'll sum it up for you. get 8+ hours a night plus a 30-40 minute nap every day if you can. otherwise, you are headed for trouble. we are animals. that's what we need. artificial light has fucked up the world's sleeping patterns. it really hasn't been around that long in the grand scheme of things. add to that the greater amounts of stress of modern society and you've got a recipe for built-in sleep debt. ideally, we would all go to bed when it gets dark and wake when it gets light.
also, according to the books it is a myth that da vinci, edison, etc. only needed a few hours sleep per day. according to these researchers and historians they slept normally most of the time except during periods of greater stress, ie when finishing commissions or on a deadline.
i just bought a new mattress and bed. my new hobby will be sleeping and napping. mmmm. i'm also looking into getting an alarm clock that will use a gradually increasing light to wake me up instead of that fucking beeping sound. supposed to be much better for you. simulates dawn.

When most people don't sleep, or get tired, they can still function at about 75% it seems...
For me, I lose about 75% of brain functionality at a certain point. Basically, I'm either on or off. I leave doors open, sit on things. put the tv remote in the refridgerator, lock my keys in my car, have huge lapses of logic.
It's hard to explain this to people sometimes. Especially employers.

yeah, I always explained it to them, but they just said go to bed earlier, I always felt like they weren't paying me to go to sleep, just to get there on time and do my job good. Which most days I don't have a problem, but sometimes its just that I don't wake up. I'm still getting better at this.

I feel shitty when I get too much sleep. Lately this is how it's been. 8 or 9 hours a night. I feel groggy and lethargic throughout the day. I feel my best when I get 6-7 hours of sleep. I think this is partly related to diet - I had no problem getting up after 6 hours when I was only eating plant matter. Meat and dairy I think take a lot of energy to process, so I need more sleep.
