It's been a year since my quest into music switched from something id muck around with maybe once a fortnight for an hour or so to being a devouring passion...
But I'm no closer to finishing a track .. I've got a few halfway there ones. . my synthesis abilities are much greater, but I've still got jack to show of it all.
I'm starting to see why it is that the internet is in fact the most horrible invention on earth..
I want to go and sell my computer, but I cant because its a 21st gift I was given, so Im stuck, with internet following me everywhere I go
I think I am actually one of those internet addicts. . i have to check . . then refresh 5mins later to see if anythings changed!
It doesnt help that every morning I'm presented with a new array of items to GAS over, another thing that has ultimately led to my downfall. . being a hardware junky aint easy. .. I keep switching sequencers, synths, samplers, etc etc.
Just sold it all, and yes. . you will see my last blog. . proclaiming i had found an answer. . well I was wrong. again. :p Twice an idiot.
I just ordered a DSI desktop evolver and an MPC500, I still have a fair pile of money left over, but I'm not buying ANYTHING. . not even a polyphonic synthesiser.
Still need to figure out a way to stop myself from wasting time online. . any ideas? I still need email and stuff so i cant cut it off completely.
Anyone dealt with and solved this problem somehow? I've taken a year off uni and want to make the most of it, but already a month is gone and nothing to show.

Try to record/improvise some simple tracks using ONE machine. That's right. ONE. No multi-tracking or post production or effects. Short or long, but the rule is one. When you feel you can do something musical/fun/interesting with one machine on it's own, then do the same thing with every other piece of gear you have - one at a time. THEN you can start to integrate bits of gear together (joy!). Oh - and I second everything astroid had to say.
Now, shut THIS machine off and do it.

Soon enough. Anticipation is half the excitement... In the meantime, consider downloading and reading the manual(s). You can learn a lot and be inspired - even make a list of experiments you'd like to try. The Evolver is an extremely complex machine - one of those machines you will keep learning from and about for the rest of your life... so take your time and enjoy it! It's the kind of machine I dreamed about when I first got into synthesis...
